@patrickmadrid Thank you, Patrick. This is an excellent explanation. Is it also true that we should "keep Christ on the cross" in our own minds because in fact his suffering is not over. Our sinfulness causes Him tremendous suffering. I believe Jesus' conversations with Padre Pio indicated this

DO CATHOLICS “KEEP CHRIST ON THE CROSS”? Many non-Catholics struggle with the crucifix. An empty cross feels acceptable, even inspiring, but a crucifix depicting the Lord Jesus Christ suffering and dying unsettles them. “He’s is not on the cross anymore,” some argue. “He is reigning gloriously in Heaven. Why focus on His death?” A fair question, and it deserves a fair answer. Catholics honor both the Crucifixion and the Resurrection of Jesus because neither stands alone. Our manger scenes, stained glass windows, icons, and statues show the Lord Jesus as a baby, a child, a teacher. Every stage of His life matters, but His death on the cross is the very reason He came. As He said, “For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth” (John 18:37). Archbishop Fulton Sheen once said on Life Is Worth Living, “Keep your eyes on the crucifix, for Jesus without the cross is a man without a mission, and the cross without Jesus is a burden without a reliever.” An empty cross immediately calls Christ to mind. That’s because the cross only matters because Christ died on it for our salvation. Which is why Saint Paul warned against allowing the cross to be “emptied of its power” (1 Corinthians 1:17). Christ’s supreme saving act was His death. By dying on the cross, He conquered death. His Resurrection proved His victory. By gloriously rising from the dead, He confirmed beyond dispute that He was exactly who He said He was: God. The Crucifixion of Jesus changed history forever. His bodily Resurrection proved it. By His death on the cross, Christ defeated sin, put death to death, opened Heaven to the faithful, and reconciled us to the Father (2 Corinthians 5:19; Ephesians 2:13–18; Colossians 1:19–20). This is why the crucifix is such a powerful reminder of His saving sacrifice. It’s a riveting visual that should stop you in your tracks and lift your heart in gratitude and praise. Resurrection and eternal glory await those who follow Jesus Christ, but only after they have walked the way of the cross in His footsteps. Jesus said, “If any man would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me” (Matthew 16:24; 10:38). Saint Paul understood this. He wrote, “When I came to you, brethren, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:1–2). He also declared: “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. . . . For Jews demand signs and Greeks seek wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified” (1 Corinthians 1:18–24). In Galatians 6:14, he exults, “But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” The early Christians did not shrink from the grim reality of Christ’s death. Saint Paul exhorted them, “For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes” (1 Corinthians 11:26). On Calvary, some shouted at Jesus, “Come down off your cross!” (see Matthew 27:40; Mark 15:30). Today, sadly, some echo that same misguided cry, objecting to crucifixes as if they somehow dishonored Him. Far from it. But Catholics know better. We Catholics strive to echo the wisdom of Saint Paul: “I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified” (1 Corinthians 2:2). If you want to deepen your love for Jesus, stand or kneel before a crucifix. Prayerfully read the Gospel accounts of His Passion. Let His sacrifice sink deep into your soul. Remember: Christ on the crucifix is not defeat. It shows forth His triumphant victory over evil. — @patrickmadrid Listen: relevantradio.com/patrick

FISA 702 is too often used to spy on Americans WITHOUT A WARRANT! The Firm™️ wants Congress to reauthorize FISA 702 next week—without a warrant requirement OR meaningful debate—by attaching it to a massive spending bill. That’s unacceptable. Please like & share if you agree.

@abbydphillip @mehdirhasan @zeteo_news Israel is far more self-sufficient militarily than you allow. The IDF defense budget is about $24 billion annually and U.S. military assistance represents only about 16 percent of this.

He can ring the Israeli PM and say ‘we're cutting you off.’ He didn't do it after 10,000 dead, 20,000 dead, today we cross 30,000 dead. You have to ask the question, why? This is a man who is seen as the great comforter-in-chief… How on earth has he not stopped the war? How are we still debating this?”

@RepDanBishop The best approach is for Congress to severely punish any executive branch personnel who obstruct its investigations using the inherent contempt power which authorizes fines, incarceration & other sanctions after conviction in legislative floor trials. bit.ly/2LunBZU

Truly. @TheJusticeDept certainly didn’t treat Christopher Steele the same way. Here’s the declassified criminal referral. It informed @TheJusticeDept that Steele’s claims to the @FBI as repeatedly described by the gov’t to the FISA court were directly contradicted by his sworn admissions during related litigation in London (bottom of memo p. 4). No indictment. No serious investigation. Steele’s claims weren’t hidden deep in the FBI’s files and ignored for years. Instead they served as the fuel for years of bizarre hysteria where people who wanted to believe them assumed they were true and insisted that it was up to others to disprove them. judiciary.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/…

It really is crazy that the FBI arrested a source who turned out to be wrong, or lying, about specific allegations against the Bidens (the overall arrangement remains corrupt), but never arrested Christopher Steele for lying about Trump and Russia. Or… maybe not so crazy, really

@krassenstein He should have said that no one should vote for any bill written outside the normal committee process and not disclosed publicly. Regular order exists for a reason. It is intended to prevent bad policy.

This needs to go VIRAL: Republican Congressman Dan Crenshaw said that he’s “extremely disappointed” in Republican lawmakers who want to “torpedo” the immigration bill in the Senate: “If we have a bill that, on net, significantly decreases illegal immigration, and we sabotage that, that is inconsistent with what we told our voters we would do.” Republicans, can you tell me what is wrong with what he said?

Does it make any difference if the bill has been declared a must-pass proposal by the media, including @WSJ, which — apparently without ever seeing the bill — declared that any Republican voting against it would be harming national security just to score cheap political points?
Mike Lee@BasedMikeLee

If a border-security bill is written in secret, and then disappears before anyone sees it, did it ever really exist?

@BasedMikeLee Thank you @BasedMikeLee. The legislative process has deteriorated so badly that few are noting the unhealthiness for the nation of this dysfunction. The media describes the legislation as "bipartisan" when it should be contemned as the illegitimate product of a corrupt process.

Senators wouldn’t buy a car without test driving it. Or at least knowing what kind of car it was. Or even whether it was an SUV or a sedan. For similar reasons, senators shouldn’t vote for a bill they’ve had no chance to read, debate, and amend. thefederalist.com/2024/02/02/sch…

If I were Speaker, It would be House policy that if any witness in a congressional hearing said “it’s our department’s policy not to comment on ongoing investigations,” the witness would be subjected to an immediate contempt of Congress vote and the department would be cut 1%.

Biden loves the Ukraine/border deal. So does Schumer. So does McConnell. And the MSM. The rest of us haven’t seen it. But we’re nervous about it. Partly because of what we know about it. Partly because of what we don’t know. And partly because of who likes it.

@RepJamesComer @seanhannity Congress should not allow witnesses to delay its investigations as Hunter Biden has done in this instance. Refusing to appear, delaying & inconveniencing Congress is contempt that should be punished even if the witness appears for testimony later.

@KassyDillon @RubinReport You can decline to have your photo taken. It is a pilot program and not mandatory. Just tell the TSA personnel you don't want your picture taken and step to the side of the camera. In many airports there is also a lane with no camera.

Just snapped this pic. This is the state of absolute insanity happening at our airports. I’m in the Pre-TSA line, where migrants don’t have to have an ID to get through security and it’s their choice whether they want their picture taken. There is a plan to destroy America.

Congress has the inherent constitutional authority to impose fines. Fact check: TRUE, just like a court does. Obviously. Otherwise, it would have to rely on other branches to enforce its subpoenas—which it has unwisely chosen to do in the modern era. How's that working out?
Miranda Devine@mirandadevine

David Weiss, Merrick Garland, Lesley Wolf, Christopher Wray need to be subpoenaed to testify publicly under oath and if they refuse should be held in contempt with $200,000 personal daily fines, as Congress has the power to do without any help from the DOJ @JsnFostr
