This refusal to put guns in is like Doom 3 having you pick between the gun or the flashlight; it's an absurdity. As long as there were electric flashlights, they came up with ways to mount them on guns. Likewise, hostile fauna are dealt with by weapons, as that's how life works. The ironic thing is, you don't have to do that if you develop the planet, which would be colonizing it. However, if you don't, it's nature, red in tooth and blood. The devs are a bunch of sheltered, half-witted morons.
