A fistfight has never been a right to escalate to deadly force and it’s punished severely. You may ask, ‘what if someone assaults me’, you lawyer up and sue them for damages in a civil case for medical bills, any lost wages, and pain and that’s how it’s supposed to work

Many don't understand that shooting another man for punching you has ALWAYS been very dicey legally, and if anything the old cases are more against it. You probably get away with it in a best case scenario, like where you were randomly/unexpectedly attacked by a huge assailant on your way to work. But it's always marginal at best, anything where you were beefing with someone, provoking, you are cruising for manslaughter or attempted murder charges. It's sort of a "gun culture myth" that there is some ancient legal right to use deadly force in response to any type of physical contact.

Seattle police have arrested a suspect in the murder of a University of Washington student.
Juniper Blessing, a 19-year-old student and transgender woman, was found dead with stab wounds in a laundry room at the Nordheim Court Apartments – off-campus housing for UW students – Sunday night.
The arrest came hours after the Seattle Police Department (SPD) released photos of a suspect on Wednesday, described as armed and dangerous. SPD confirmed to KOMO News that the man in the photos is the same man who was arrested.
According to Seattle police Det. Brian Pritchard, the 31-year-old man — later identified as Christopher Leahy — turned himself in to Bellevue police before being transferred to SPD detectives.
