@nothanksnopeyno @ontologyofRouge @Boenau It is absolutely possible to have good public transport, protected/separate bike lanes and infrastructure for emergency vehicles etc. at the same time. Multiple countries have already done it. And it makes it easier for everyone to get around.

@wonka_cs @ontologyofRouge @Boenau It's way more important to preserve roads for necessary motor vehicle traffic than to shove them into a lane next to a far underused one. Of course, this is regional, but to have protected bike lanes here would mean increasing fees and taxes on the poor who just wanted a bus.

@wonka_cs @ontologyofRouge @Boenau Protected bike lanes would cost us in my area a ridiculous amount to plow in the winter. Cities with snow are already struggling just keeping roads open for emergency vehicles and busses. If we take away the cost of extra paint and barely used bike lanes, it would benefit all.

@ontologyofRouge @nothanksnopeyno @Boenau Your question doesn't make sense. No one should be cycling fast enough to cause serious harm in a crash, if the bike lane is congested. So define "decent speed", km/h is preferred, mph is also fine.

@nothanksnopeyno @ontologyofRouge @Boenau I agree that the painted bike lanes aren't as safe as a protected bike lane, or a separate bike path. But that is only because of cars. Cars are involved in almost every fatal bike accident. I strongly recommend that you watch "Not Just Bikes" on youtube.

@wonka_cs @ontologyofRouge @Boenau I had a bike advocate that argued that the line gets treated as a solid lane and then ignores the minimum passing distance. So, bike lanes are less safe than when I was a teenage girl riding through a car filled city. I'm sorry you're not as robust as a teenage girl.

@ontologyofRouge @Boenau Bikes are a lot better for urban areas than cars are. They take up a lot less space, and move more people. Just because you have done it without bike lanes, doesn't mean that it's the best way to do it.
