Who is the primary driving force to pass legislation requiring "Age Verification in Operating Systems" in Canada? Porn companies. Seriously. Specifically "Ethical Capital Partners", a $400 Million+ per year Porn mega firm, run by the Italian-Canadian, Rocco Meliambro. Right now, in Canada, bill S-209 is working its way through the system (passing 3rd reading in the Senate, and now in the House of Commons). And porn companies do NOT like S-209. Why? Because S-209 would not only require Age Verification for accessing Porn websites... this law would put the majority of the responsibility ON the Porn website companies themselves. Rocco Meliambro's Canadian Porn empire doesn't want to deal with that (potentially massive) financial and legal burden. Meliambro's proposed solution is to move the burden of Age Verification away from Porn websites... and put it entirely on the Operating System developers. If Windows, macOS, Android, & Linux (etc.) are all forced to implement and manage Age Verification... that let's the Porn Websites almost completely off the hook! Interestingly this is the exact same reason why Facebook / Meta is lobbying for Operating System level Age Verification laws in the USA. That's right. Two of the most aggressive advocates for Age Verification in Operating Systems... are Facebook and Canadian Porn websites. @thedragonstea The ideal is a middle ground. Leave people alone unless they're antagonistic. Someone being a problem should be able to be addressed with sufficient force to deter or stop them, but someone harming/bothering nobody should be left alone.

As terrible an idea as these Age Verification laws are… normal people feel compelled to do something, anything, in the face of an undeniable evil which seems to be targeting for kids. So they support Age Verification in the misguided hope that this would be a good way to provide that protection. While the “loli” perverts are only one of the issues driving people towards Age Verification… they, undeniably, play a noteworthy role. So not only is “loli” pure, perverted evil… But it’s also significantly harming every computer user by providing additional motivation (and excuses) for politicians (and regular people) to push for Age Verification on both online services and Operating Systems.
