@tutueme @JeromeAdamsMD Yes. Literally every possible option. The survey I used in my thesis had around 9000 options. There’s a standard developed by UPMC for the government To determine these areas. It’s a process thats been updated ever 5 years since Nixon signed it into law in 70.

What does "difficult" mean? Does it mean people in heavily rural areas don't have close access? Does it mean people in urban areas can't walk two miles? Fresh-frozen foods, that are unprocessed, or canned food without preservative additives, meet the criteria for fresh food. Were those options considered in the surveys?

I appreciate the push to get people to eat healthier, and I don’t mind using SNAP as a lever. But it’s not as simple as many privileged people think/ say. If you live in a grocery desert and all you have is a convenience store or a Dollar General, it’s not so simple to EAT REAL FOOD. 🤷🏽‍♂️

@tutueme @JeromeAdamsMD We have plenty around me. When I did my masters we had 6 areas in greater New York where access to any fresh food was difficult. there was an area in Illinois near Chicago we surveyed where the nearest fresh meat or fruit option was 2 hours away by public transit!

@JeromeAdamsMD Where is one of these "food deserts" located? Where is there one urban area where there is not SNAP eligible food that is suitable for a simple, unprocessed diet? Milk, eggs, flour, dried beans, fresh or fresh-frozen meats, vegetables and fruit is all that is necessary.
