why do crypto apps still ask users to connect wallet before they can even explore the app?? let people browse first, then ask for wallet when they actually need it

I wasn’t aware of how chaotically drawn the fourth ward was. Those are a lot of very disparate, far apart and disconnected neighborhoods? How are parts of downtown and then also Kenwood represented by the same alderman?

Strongly support what @shefiorg is doing. Thousands of members learning Web3 - real community building and education. There are plenty of real issues in our industry to improve on without engagement farming an attack.

Happy Birthday Ethereum! Tb to 7 years ago and a rooftop party I threw for the Ethereum NYC meetup group. Ether was $197. So many original builders were there, laying the foundation for the vibrant NYC community today. Pictured, among others, the legends @jbrukh @AndrewDARMACAP

Does anyone know a way I can obtain historical mempool data? Not current mempool monitoring data, but historical snapshots of the mempool? A professor/researcher is asking. I'm not sure anyone keeps this data tbh. @QuickNode @mysticryuujin @infura_io @AlchemyPlatform

🔦 Ethereum community spotlight on Kuala Lumpur 🇲🇾 @ETHKL1 is bringing the #Ethereum community to Kuala Lumpur on 13-15 October 2023 with a conference and hackathon at Sunway University, Malaysia. Deva🦄 had the chance to talk to @harithk17, one of the driving forces behind @ETHKL1, and do a small community interview 🎤🧵 Deva🦄: What is ETHKL? ETHKL is the Ethereum community in Kuala Lumpur and is a part of Ethereum Malaysia which includes our sister community ETHPenang. We’ve been running for 5 years and organize a bunch of things including monthly in-person meetups, online workshops, study groups and a small hacker house. In February we held a mini-hack with 90 participants. In May, we held a half-day four-track event hosting 200 attendees and a dozen Ethereum projects. Ethereum Kuala Lumpur on 13-15 October is the next step up! Deva🦄: What's your origin story? ETHKL began life in May 2018. It was peak ICO-mania at the time and there were many meetups done to shill these ICOs. A few of us wanted to have a meetup that focused on the actual tech and use cases of Ethereum, and when @wuehler from @infura_io was in town, we decided to hold our first one hosting him and @mtbitcoin from @etherscan. From there we’ve branched out into all kinds of other activities, especially during COVID lockdowns where we had to be creative to keep ourselves running. We shared our learnings here: x.com/ethkl1/status/… Deva🦄: What inspired you to bring Ethereum Kuala Lumpur to life this year? The pieces were all in place - we just needed to put them together! With @EFDevcon 2024 happening in SEA, nomad builders moving to KL, support from local universities and the community growing from strength to strength, it felt natural for KL to host an Ethereum event. It was important to us that any such event lives up to Ethereum’s values, so some of ETHKL’s contributors volunteered to step up and take on the challenge. Deva🦄: What makes KL a unique place for Web3 builders in your eyes? We see a trend of builders moving to Asia in recent years. A few cities in SEA are ideal for these as we’re extremely affordable and are full of young, hungry talent. KL stands out even among these cities - visitors are consistently surprised by the city’s modern infrastructure, proficiency in English & Mandarin and a thriving Ethereum community! Deva🦄: What Ethereum topics are most popular amongst the KL community? There is strong interest in Zero-Knowledge proofs - we recently wrapped up a ZK study group and we're dedicating an entire day of talks (hosting @PrivacyScaling researchers!) just for it. There’s also interest in Web3 data analytics (not surprising given @etherscan and @coingecko are in the community), and in DeFi. Deva🦄: What unique aspects of Malaysia's Ethereum community do you hope to showcase through Ethereum Kuala Lumpur? Malaysians are typically shy but once you get to know us you’ll find we’re welcoming, engaged and eager to learn! We’re also hoping to introduce the wider Ethereum ecosystem to the active builder community here in KL. Deva🦄: How can attendees experience the vibrant culture and sights of Kuala Lumpur during their visit? Make Malaysian friends at the conference and they’ll be happy to bring you around town! We also shared some suggestions in this thread: x.com/ethkl1/status/… Deva🦄: Thank you, @harithk17 for the interview! Check out hack.ethkl.org and say hi to @ETHKL1 on Twitter. 👋🇲🇾

🛡️🛡️OWOCKI TELL ME ABOUT YOUR TRIP TO DC 🛡️🛡️ sure anon, i'd be delighted to share my #standwithcrypto day debrief. i was one of ~40 founders invited to @coinbase @standwithcrypto day in washington DC. it was my first time being in DC, and i identify as a software engineer, not an experienced political hand, so take with a grain of salt, but here are my notes: first, the stats: - 87% of americans want to update the financial system - 52m americans own crypto (12m more than use ridesharing monthyl, and 5x more americans than use electric vehicles) - this demographic is younger (60% Gen-Z and Millennials) and more diverse (41% identify as racial minorities) than the general US population - 22% of democrats own crypto, 18% of republicans. 22% of independents - 52% of fortune 100 companies have crypto initiatives our first session of the day was watching the Gary Gensler congressional oversight hearing live. it is incredible to be able to walk into the capital building and attend this hearing and be in the audience as an everyday citizen, a true testament to accessibility in a democracy. while i found the hearing itself to be pretty toothless, and that most congresspeople wanted mostly to get soundbites, it is still nice to see that Gensler's prejudices against crypto are not shared by all of the legislative branch. next, we met Ritchie Torres (D-NY). then Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY). then Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). finally Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-NY). what follows are some notes i took during these meetings. - i was struck how the capital cafeteria + the area around the city had people from all walks of life. - it seems many agree that Gensler is a lost cause. He has judged crypto with prejudice to be worthless, and won't be taking his mandate to maintain fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and facilitate capital formation, for crypto, seriously. - the white house doesnt like crypto, but no one seems to really know why. as far as i know, no one with @standwithcrypto was able to meet with the executive branch. - one talking point that everyone seemed to agree on is that crypto is here to stay. whats at stake here is financial innovation in america. - most of the representatives we spoke to seemed receptive to the following points - crypto creates jobs - crypto is a way to extend the reach/hegemony of the US dollar - pushing crypto projects off-shore like FTX is a major risk to consumers - quote of the day comes from @novogratz: "The Extralegal debanking of crypto companies is the most UnAmerican thing I've ever seen" (paraphrasing) - while it seems there are some prominent democrats that are against crypto, particularly in the whitehouse.... it does seem there are a fair number of younger dems open to it. There is a big generational divide in support for crypto, and congress will likely not be more open to crypto until we end the geritocracy. - many in the @standwithcrypto group were pushing for the Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act ("FIT21") bill to be pushed into law. we were urged by rep Jeffries to get the legislation passed in a bipartisan manner so that it isnt just overturned the next time "the gavel changes hands". - there was also rallying against onerous reporting rules coming from the IRS. i didnt take good notes about what they were tho. - the stank of SBF seems to have mostly lifted. the opportunists who used SBF/FTX implosion to advance their agenda last year have played their hands already. - the government shutdown seemed to be looming over everything. it doesnt seem like people think FIT21 will be passed this year, maybe not soon at all - there are other things in the agenda and crypto is not high on the list for everyone who is a ranking member. - we were told several times that us showing up and engaging face to face is hugely legitimizing for the industry. - We were also told to have our customers/audience call/write their congresspeople. Congresspeople take seriously inbound from their constituents. Don't just tweet at them, tweeting is like pissing into the wind. - i spoke a few times about the impact that @gitcoin is having on pro-social causes like OSS Funding, climate research, humanitarian aid to Ukraine, COVID relief, Decentralized Science, etc.. and the jobs created by the crypto industry we've supported. crypto can be pro-social, protopian, pro-environmental - it just needs to be shown off more often. - it was cool to sit shoulder to shoulder pushing for regulatory clarity with prominent crypto luminaries like @brian_armstrong @twobitidiot @novogratz @FEhrsam i hope to return to DC in the future. much love to the founders who i attended the event with, they all seemed to genuinely want to do good stuff with the tech, but hampered by an uncertain regulatory environment in their home country. everyone genuinely wants regulatory clarity. to learn more about the initiative check out standwithcrypto.org.

@hudsonjameson This was our thinking 7 yrs ago when we launched @infura_io, and we’ve been heavily criticized over those years for it. Now our decentralization efforts we began last year are taking shape nicely.
