Did you know, Carney’s Liberal government’s Bill C-37 violates international law surrounding First Nations' clean drinking water, this includes United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Even though it mentions UNDRIP, it deliberately excludes Article 25 that protects Indigenous people’s traditionally owned waters and coastal seas. Bill C-37 is a clear violation of Indigenous rights, and it must be significantly amended, or else rejected altogether.

@JakeLandauTO My understanding’s that social democracy doesn’t seek to abolish commodity production but to have more of a mixed economy & strong welfare state via Keynesian economic reforms. Whereas democratic socialism does aim to phase out commodity production via electoralism in most cases.

Nah, democratic socialism and social democracy are the same thing, as Ed Broadbent put it (his book Seeking Social Democracy is good). If there're two rival groups calling themselves one and the other terms, it's a Judean People's Front vs People's Front of Judea situation.

Democratic Socialists like @aoc and @NYCMayor do not believe what Democratic Socialist countries throughout the world do. In fact it’s a stupid name for the party. They aren’t socialists. They believe in social democracy similar to Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. These countries are capitalists. They just realize that income disparity can’t keep getting greater without society helping those who can’t afford healthcare, childcare and retirement. They should rename themselves “social democrats.”

@levantineking98 I think it’s a byproduct of liberal identity politics. People self-identify as being part of a specific group with a specific cultural history and they’re unable to see beyond the category. I think about this as a woman and a feminist all the time.
