Bro I'm so sick of pretending this isn't weird. The internet spent 20 years creating tutorials, open-source projects, blog posts & answers for free. AI companies turned all of it into products worth billions. And now the same people who created that knowledge are being told they're replaceable. We built the library. Someone else started charging admission.

Code is too tedious but prompting is too chaotic. The middle ground sounds reasonable to me, but it would be funny if this pseudocode representation of your software doesn’t just end up in an AI lab re-releasing programming languages as a novel discovery in two years.

@Dilmerv Yes sir. Code is cheap. Systems understanding is not. I think that’s going to be the edge for quite a while.

I am going to put this out there because I can’t stop thinking about it. Claude / AI has been extremely useful for the last few games I’ve made, but it worries me that the codebase is getting so large that there are certain areas I may not fully understand anymore. 💡Am I the only one feeling this way?

@1UnAverageJoe @Mk2Sektor Entirely possible? Not sure how that's relevant here though. If the argument is just "if only a small amount is pirated, then it's OK", just make that argument ("You should only pirate a game if n% of it is pirated" or something similar)

For people using AI in commercial game development: I'd be interested in hearing the best arguments as to why you think people should pay for the resulting game instead of pirating it. Concisely, if you pirated the inputs, why shouldn't they pirate the output?

Well, we got everything 🙌. Can’t believe it. visionOS was the most updated platform of all during this WWDC imho. It’s crazy when you think about it, given all the bad press from the past few months 😂.

a few of you have been riled up by this video which includes such iconic phrases as AI “sucks balls at coding,” “go fuck yourself,” “materialist propaganda wet dream bullshit,” passing AI through a “glory hole,” and lastly, failing to properly take accountability for my children and mother-in-law. for posterity, i’d like to make a written record of actual claims i’ve made without the seemingly not-so-funny shit-posting wrapper. 1. there is no consensus on intelligence in animals. why are armchair thinkers claiming AGI is already here? and why is demis hassabis meanwhile saying we are nowhere near AGI? 2. often when the shortfalls of LLMs is brought up, proponents say “yeah but, 12-18 months these issues won’t exist anymore.” this constant prognostication about future progress is not useful discourse and is a form of religious psychosis. i say that in future videos, i will simply judge llms by their current abilities, and not by future potential. 3. i say that llms are not actually intelligent and that david deutsch argues intelligence and consciousness/personhood seem to be inseparable. i say that for this reason llms are not actually intelligent but “trick” credulous people into believing they are. here of course we are getting into axiomatic word game territory so no one wins. that feigning intelligence is equivalent to it is not a settled matter and while this “fake” intelligence may help you do some work, it does not obviate the need for clearly delineating between true intelligence and a model of it. actually nothing is more important than this very question. regarding ai “sucking balls at coding”, i was somewhat re-enlivened to make this claim after watching a 20 minute video i uploaded on yt back in february when i used to do coding screen shares / daily dev logs. i was (am) a huge user of these tools. the “sucks balls” isn’t that it can’t do some things for you. it’s that it can’t ultimately get you to your final final destination. to me, it wasn’t so obvious there were net gains in productivity, all things considered, even though day to day you kind of felt like there were. i make about 2-3 videos a week and it’s easy to miss that these videos are usually performative storytelling. they are presentations meant to get you through the whole thing. that this one was particularly over the top was precisely the point. it’s a “drunken rant” genre that is meant to be a vicarious/cathartic ventilation of pent up frustrations that many of us feel towards the industry-wide token mania that is resulting in the serious loss of what it even means to be human. and for what? higher productivity gains? my job is simply to tell stories that draw attention to this fact.

@dankbakely @FlintDibble The problem is not the value creation of companies. The problem is that Tax codes are full of loopholes, enforcement is uneven, and rich people can afford lawyers/accountants to exploit them. It's not the company, it's the power of the owners.

@xmattei @FlintDibble Companies creating enormous value for ordinary people is not how the system abuses anyone. I agree these are multivariable problems and therefore they demand a sober multivariable analysis, not an ideological one.

@dankbakely @FlintDibble These are multi-variable problems that affects different subsets of the population. A fair number of Americans can’t have babies because of the enormous economic burden it creates. Plus, while you are correct about Bezos wealth, it also exposes how this system abuses others.

@FlintDibble This is a very ideological argument and it's objectively untrue. Birth rates are falling in the most equal countries on earth. Life expectancy is rising globally. Bezos's wealth reflects equity in companies that created enormous value for ordinary people.
