if you are like me, a spoiled child of america, and your focus after 20 months of live-streamed holocaust of children in gaza is still on your personal feelings instead of unconditional support to the victims of genocide, there is more honor in continuing to stay quiet.

Maybe it's just me, but it seems like a single ferry isn't the same as 5,800 buses on fixed routes in the state of New York. The Staten Island Ferry costs the city of New York $150 million per year, with additional Federal funding of around $5 million; and it costs New Yorkers around $5 per passenger through a tax. Estimated costs for daily bus operations in New York is about $12 million, implying an annual cost of about $4.38 billion. This aligns with other estimates of between $4-$5 billion annually. The MTA's annual budget is $19.3 billion, with 58% going to the 54,400 personnel who keep the buses and subways running (drivers, support personnel, mechanics, etc.). Further, the MTA is in the process of transitioning to electric buses (a really BAD idea), which would cost around $6 billion to convert the entire fleet. Fares and tolls account for about $6.8 billion of the total budget for MTA services (buses & subways), with bus fares alone accounting for about $2-$3 billion alone. Bottom line: The Staten Island ferry costs the city of New York, its taxpayers, about $150 million per year. You know, so that it can be "free" to riders. The bus system alone costs riders, taxpayers, the state of New York, between $4-$5 billion per year. Please explain in detail how you plan on making the bus system "free."

When someone tells you buses could never be free, ask them how much they pay to take the Staten Island Ferry.

@JasonKPargin Good thing we use machines to make the job easier and for more people. The point is we can make food for everyone, and it’s crazy we don’t because it’s not profitable.

@BacklashRC @jcorriv35 @leavitt_palmer Tyranny of the majority is just Democracy. A good thing. The opposite, which you appear to want, is a select few ruling class making all decisions. You have serf brain

@jcorriv35 @leavitt_palmer Should you be forced to live out the vision of the truck owner, rather than your personal vision? Are you arguing that we should be held to the whims and tyranny of the majority?

@MortenAnder @the_transit_guy There isn’t a train that goes that way that fast. I’d much rather drive. I enjoy the road, I prefer the freedom of having my own car. if I want a nap, I just pull over and rack out. A 5 -7 hour drive is nothing to me.

Piker, as of 2024, net worth is estimated to be around $2.6 million. He receives a “steady stream of donations that could provide $50 - $90k every month and between $800k - $1.5 million over a year” Socialism is when you take money from the working class and give to the ones who refuse to work. Just like Piker, he stays wealthy because people donate money to him. Whats he some kind of demigod 🤣😂 He wants your money because he needs your money to stay wealthy.

@DCUrbanist A dc train to the eastern shore would be amazing. Literally no one likes the bay bridge. but the state would never cannibalize the toll revenue.

@LatestandNatest @MorlockP I’m sure that number is bloated. But the county has to pay for the engineering and local contractor to build it. Think about it this way, that money going back to the community in more ways than just the material cost of $550

@MorlockP $65,000 is literal theft. The DIY quality sucked, but the true cost is vastly closer to $550 than $65,000.

Mortgage rates spiked from 3% to >7%. That should've sent home prices down, but it hasn't BUT then the cost of insurance, property taxes & maintenance surged, too. These should also reduce home prices What's the compelling argument that prices WON'T ultimately adjust downwards?

@JasonAzevedo18 @cryptopheresis @adamtaggart So you think enough people are going to lose their jobs and then live where? You said they don’t have jobs, they just become homeless? That seems like a bigger problem than “correcting” the market prices.

Can anyone show me a video of a male gamer getting flamed for the sole reason of him being a male? Not cuz he sucked at the game. Not cuz he talked shit first. But ONLY because he spoke on mic and they realized it’s a man. Trying to see something real quick.

Like, the Xbox output this generation has been poor. Series X|S has had so little to differentiate itself. Yet they had Hi-Fi Rush (plus a few other greats, ofc) and now they killed the studio that made one of their best games of the last 10 years. For what?!
