On the sidelines of the Africa Forward Summit 2026 in Nairobi, Africa CDC participated in the AIM2030 High-Level Breakfast convened by partners to accelerate local pharmaceutical manufacturing, market shaping, and sustainable access to medical products across Africa. The engagement brought together senior government leaders, @_AfricanUnion institutions, development finance institutions, industry representatives, and global health partners to advance coordinated implementation of Africa’s manufacturing and health sovereignty agenda. President @WilliamsRuto, AU Champion for Local Manufacturing of medical products, underscored the importance of moving from commitments to concrete delivery and investment. During the high-level panel discussion, H.E. Dr Jean Kaseya, Director General of Africa CDC, highlighted the critical role of the African Pooled Procurement Mechanism (APPM) in creating predictable demand, strengthening market access, reducing costs, improving supply security, and supporting African manufacturers through sustainable procurement systems. Africa CDC also announced the successful completion of its first APPM tender for essential RMNCH medicines across 10 AU Member States, achieving substantial cost savings and expanded participation of African manufacturers. #AfricaForwardSummit #AIM2030 #AHSS #LocalManufacturing #HealthSecurity

Africa CDC, ASLM and the European Union (@EU_Commission) have launched the ARILAC initiative — a four-year partnership to strengthen microbiology laboratory systems, AMR surveillance and integrated One Health data use across Africa. Implemented across eight @_AfricanUnion Member States, ARILAC will support stronger laboratory networks, improved diagnostics, genomic surveillance, workforce development and better data systems to combat antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The initiative marks an important step towards stronger, more resilient and better-connected laboratory systems for Africa’s health security. Africa carries a significant share of the global disease burden, yet remains underrepresented in global health research and development. To help close this gap, Africa CDC is advancing a unified continental framework to strengthen health research governance, coordination, ethical oversight, and sustainable research capacity across Africa. Developed with @_AfricanUnion Member States, National Ethics Committees, and African scientists, the framework marks a key step toward a more coordinated, Africa-led research ecosystem. 👉 Read the framework: ow.ly/x4kT50YMnZr #HealthSecurity

At the @WorldHealthSmt Regional Meeting 2026, I shared a simple conviction: Africa is making strides, the priority now is to sustain and scale this impact by investing in our systems, aligning health security with climate action, and supporting what Africa produces. Through the Africa Health Security and Sovereignty (#AHSS) agenda, we are advancing a bold, Africa-led vision—driven by strong leadership, strengthened systems, and growing local manufacturing capacity across the continent. #WHSNairobi2026 #HealthSecurity
