Oda is showing signs of a mangaka who's used to writing slow paced arcs where he takes his time & can really lock in on all the minute details of each plot point he pens, but now has to speed it up bc he physically can't produce the extra 15 chapters per year he needs to do that as effectively as he once did.
And since he doesn't want to write OP into his 60s he's abridging shit & cutting his least fav parts of the series to draw. Fights. He's not washed. He just has to take his time in flashbacks & that's why it feels that aspect of his pen hasn't diminished.
In the FB he only has to focus on 1 or 2 plot points. Outside of flashback he has to focus on a lot of different plot points bc he WANTS to properly scale the story to where it's headed end game. That just requires a lot more time & panel space than he has access to given his physical/age limitations & his desire to enjoy the remainder of his life outside of his work.
