My pre-PhD work is out @CurrentBiology! We studied Alston’s singing mice, neotropical rodent that produces loud, human-audible 'songs' and engages in vocal turn-taking. Using thermal imaging in semi-natural arena, we probed song use across social contexts. cell.com/current-biolog…

Happy to share our new review on Neural Mechanisms of Social Hierarchy across Species. We discussed how different individuals in various species, from fish to humans, achieve high social status and the neural circuits supporting each of those strategies. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Proud to see this work finally out and featured in Scientific American! It was such a joy working with Joergen Kornfeld's group to visualize the interactions of migrating neurons in the adult songbird brain, see the full paper here: sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

A new study in songbirds might help explain why humans don’t generate many new brain cells, called neurons, as adults spklr.io/6010EJ2QQ

What has changed in mama bear brain (well, actually mice) to make her risk her life to attack a potential threat and protect her young? Oxytocin is the key! Happy to share our new study led by two awesome postdocs: Takashi Yamaguchi and Rongzhen Yan. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Thrilled to announce I'll be starting my own neuro-theory lab, as an Assistant Professor at @YaleNeuro @WuTsaiYale this Fall! My group will study offline learning in the sleeping brain: how neural activity self-organizes during sleep and the computations it performs. 🧵

How does life evolve to adapt to modern cities? Out now in @ScienceMagazine, my PhD work with @LindyMcBr uncovers the ancient origin of the “London Underground mosquito” – one of the most iconic examples of urban adaptation. 🧵(1/n) science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

Diffusion models learn probability densities by estimating the score with a neural network trained to denoise. What kind of representation arises within these networks, and how does this relate to the learned density? @EeroSimoncelli @StephaneMallat and I explored this question.
