The Chinese menace continues in Zimbabwe. They treat black Zimbabweans like dirt and have put them in situations where they are forced to fight violently to defend their rights, their dignity, and their own land. They exploit our people, make them work for peanuts, and take everything.
Zimbabwe suffered under colonialism from 1897 to 1980. The white man had his weaknesses, including racism, but it never reached this level of dehumanisation. There was at least a semblance of structure and investment, even though it was colonial. With the Chinese, however, we get the worst. Many of those coming to Zimbabwe are not even the best China has to offer, some are people coming straight out of prisons. It is like taking inmates from Chikurubi and sending them abroad, then expecting them to behave in a dignified and respectful manner toward the local population.
All this is happening because our government allows it. What the Chinese are permitted to do in Zimbabwe, no Zimbabwean or African would ever be allowed to do in China. It makes me wonder: is it self-hate? Is it lack of confidence? Is it corruption? Why would any black leader allow black Zimbabweans to be treated this way by foreigners who are here only to exploit and extract without investing anything back into the country?
At least the colonial rulers, for all their brutality and racism, built infrastructure, industries, and systems. The Chinese build nothing for Zimbabwe. They strip our land, loot our minerals, and send the wealth to China. I respect them for protecting their own national interests, but I have nothing but contempt for our leaders who fail to protect ours.
Our tragedy is not China’s greed, but our own leaders’ betrayal. They prioritise personal gain over the dignity and well-being of their people. We must reclaim our self-respect as Africans, because no other race will ever respect us if we do not respect ourselves.
How can Europeans or Americans take us seriously when we allow the Chinese to abuse our citizens with impunity? The way our leaders treat us reflects deep self-hate, and until we confront that truth, we will continue to be humiliated in our own land.
What will it take for our government to protect Zimbabweans from this crude exploitation?
