𝗔𝗣𝗜 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀 API (Application Programming Interface) is an interface that enables software applications to communicate with each other by defining a set of rules and protocols. 𝗧𝘆𝗽𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗣𝗜𝘀: 🔹 𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗧 (𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗳𝗲𝗿): An architectural style that uses standard HTTP methods, typically paired with JSON for its lightweight nature and ease of use. However, XML can also be used, especially in legacy systems. 🔹 𝗦𝗢𝗔𝗣 (𝗦𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲 𝗢𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹): A protocol leveraging XML as its primary message format, designed for exchanging structured information to implement web services. Today, it is mainly used in legacy systems. 🔹 𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝗤𝗟: A query language for APIs, allowing precise data fetching. It often employs JSON for its response format because it efficiently represents complex, hierarchical data. 🔹 𝗪𝗲𝗯𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀: HTTP callbacks triggered by specific events, offering real-time data exchange between systems. The payload format can vary, but JSON is commonly used for its versatility. Image credits: Rapid API. (Note that Kafka is noted as an API type, which is not. It is more like protocol.) #programming #api

𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗦𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗠𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰. You probably already noticed that I'm a big fan of reading. I usually read 3 to 4 books monthly (not all from tech). There are two ways to learn from knowledgeable people: to work directly with them or to read what they have written. The first option is the best, yet it is often impossible to do. So, we have books written by people who are probably the best at this in the world at the time of writing. If we look at the software engineering world, there are many gems, but I will recommend the best books per area of work. These books will help you become good at specific technology and a great software engineer overall. 𝟭.
