Fiona Gribben, my wife & best friend, died this morning. The last two years have had too much pain & sadness. But also great moments of love, fulfilment & kindness. We are lost without her.

Today a new chapter began for the @HeaneyCentre at Queen’s as the doors of its brand-new building were officially opened. The new centre honours the legacy of one of Ireland’s greatest poets with a large venue space, a scriptorium, offices and creative spaces for students and staff. A new public exhibition area will also display our Seamus Heaney archive for the very first time. We were joined at the official opening event by Marie Heaney, Seamus’ wife, the First and Deputy First Ministers @moneillsf and @little_pengelly, Lord Mayor of Belfast Councillor @micky_murray, actors Ciarán Hinds and @geroildeen, and staff, students and friends of Queen’s. "This centre is more than just a building; it is a tribute to one of Ireland’s greatest poets, Seamus Heaney, and it will be a cornerstone of the University. “The new centre will be a landmark on the island of Ireland that will look to the future, providing an inspiring environment for our students, staff, writers, and the wider community to engage in the study and creation of writing. “The University has contributed hugely to the literary life of Belfast and further afield with many notable alumni such as Paul Muldoon, Medbh McGuckian, Ciaran Carson, and @LisaMMcGee to name but a few. This new space will harness the development of many more creative talents in the years to come.” (@QUBVChancellor).
