@Leisure4Me @tomrenniesoccer But they don't mandate them in the middle of the half so TV stations can show adverts, which is exactly what these are. Normally they'll stop for no more than a minute or have water available all round the pitch.

@tomrenniesoccer Dishonest post. Lots of end and early season EPL games get hydration breaks due to heat. And FIFA has done this before in other warm weather events.

@mlycan12 A separate clock so keeping the referee as sole timekeeper keeps this consistency in laws. Also most fans can usually guess accurately the added on time from watching the game. Agree on the hydration breaks though, purely down to allow US tv to show adverts. Need binning (3)

Can we seriously talk about fixing the clock situation in the World Cup and international soccer. It really makes my head hurt. The ridiculous advertising driven “hydration breaks” add on three minutes so why not just stop the clock rather than add at least 3 minutes to each half? And how is it that if a game lasts 96 min, it resets back to 90 min to start OT so 3 min into OT it says 93:00 when it’s really been 99 minutes.? Since they insist on “counting up” I always have to do math the whole game which is highly irritating and we never even know what exactly we are counting to since it’s a mysterious secret that only the ref knows. I’ve been obsessed with soccer my whole life but this is still one of the biggest dumb things about soccer in my book

@mlycan12 Also the referee is able to add on time if he feels any players are time wasting. How does that work if someone else is in charge of the clock? Rules are to be consistent across ALL levels of the game, kids, amateur, lower league & top leagues etc. lower levels can't afford (2)

@mlycan12 🤦🏻 How do you know the clock is accurate? According to law 7 the referee is sole timekeeper. Also since you've been "obsessed" you'll know.theynadd.on 30secs per sub, time for injuries etc. The time shown that is added on is a minimum as any stoppage will add further to that (1)

That's never a block on the keeper. Keeper turned into defender who was close. When you see what is allowed week in week out seems rediculous.

@TJFsports @SheaSerrano The time shown is also a minimum only, if there is an injury or substitutions then that time needs added on too. Clocks are not done as said the ref is sole arbiter. Football's rules must be consistent through all levels, youth, amateur lower league as well as top leagues (2)

@SheaSerrano it truly is the dumbest thing and has always annoyed me about soccer. No one has been able to give me a good answer as to why stoppage time is better than simply pausing the clock when the ball isn’t in play. their explanations are always nonsensical

it’s hilarious they got ultra special super cameras in soccer that can you if someone was offsides by 1/8th of an inch but when someone is like “how much time is left in this game?” all of a sudden the refs turn into cavemen staring at the sun lol

@TJFsports @SheaSerrano Really? Or do you just not listen. The clock doesn't stop as the referee and referee alone is the timekeeper. HE is in charge. HE can decide to add time on for time wasting, 30 seconds per sub, time added for goal celebrations, injuries. The time shown comes from referee (1)

@justinalt574 @ConradWiacek Can't beat on absolute numbers due to the entire population is only 5.5 million, but per capita is extremely high week in week out in all weathers. So other countries do know a thing or two on sporting popularity.👍 (2)

@ConradWiacek You have no clue what you’re talking about. We support multiple major sports in our country, with higher attendance than anywhere else, and passionate fans throughout. That’s not even counting college sports.

@justinalt574 @ConradWiacek That's because you have a massive population and only 32 NFL teams. For example, by head of population, Scotland has the highest supported league in Europe and compared to US (all major leagues & college sport) we are still higher per head of population. (1)

@itimaliasof 3 minutes for hydration break 2 minutes Casemiro injury/substitution 2 minutes goal celebration 4.5 minutes for substitutions (9 subs x 30 seconds) That's 11 minutes 30 seconds.

É impressão minha ou a arbitragem tá perseguindo o Brasil nessa Copa? O juizão deixou passar 5min depois dos acréscimos, sem motivo algum...

@gov_fails People are acting like we didn't already take soccer (and rugby) and make a bunch of changes and come up with a better sport once already. By God we shall do it again!

I'm not saying that many of the suggested rule changes to soccer aren't dumb, but the most interesting part about all of this is that is just how Americans are built. We question things. We look for improvements. It's where innovation comes from. Be Exceptional, Americans!

@Only9built Jag all the way. Owned a 2008 MY S Type SE 2.7 diesel. Run out model with R grille, absolutely fantastic car to drive. Only the R has more torque. The R is a beast though would never turn one down.

@CBSquiggle @Only9built Not even close. Had been designed before Ford. Fords $ made it possible. Ford realised they could save money by sharing the platform with Lincoln LS. DEW98 the platform was a joint development mostly Jag. By 2003 Fors.gerbox replaced by ZF & no suspension etc sharing with Ford.

@AlexiLalas No it won"t arrive in European football. Standing around for 3 minutes while it's minus whatever in January just to show ads. Not going to happen. It is not wanted nor needed. Managed over 100 years without it unless very, very warm with drinks round the pitch or only for 1 min.

MLS is most likely to be first league to add hydration breaks. MLS has history of embracing change (VAR, ref-cam, ref mics, timed subs, off-field treatment, 35- yard shootout, etc.) Premier League will be last, not b/c they don’t want it, but b/c it’s perceived as American.
Negro Lomas@thenegritolomas

@AlexiLalas Will the @MLS be implementing the #HydrationBreaks into the league this season???

@SpanishRogu @DocDoc21516 @guttenbirder22 Lots.can happen in a 0-0 draw. Shots, saves, crunching tackle, bodies.on the line defending allsorts. Seen many very exciting 0-0 draws and some truly shite games with multiple goals.

Americans complaining about soccer because “they don’t score enough” 😑 Have you considered that the scarcity makes every goal 100x more cathartic than a score in other sports, and lends untold beauty to the 90 minutes of battle that lead to those goals?

@21TCar @guttenbirder22 It is a bad take. That would mean both are tactically naive, positionally poor & generally shite play. I find it amazing that many in US cannot find anything to enjoy unless lots of goals. What about saves, last ditch defending, testing defence, midfield battles, shots etc. 🤷

@guttenbirder22 Why not find a happy medium like hockey where you get 6-8 goals per game generally. Enough scoring to make it exciting but goals are still at a premium.

@ZVR09 @Four_3_Three As as been said many times there are games with many goals that are a dreadful watch and 0-0 draws that are very, very exciting. Chances, saves, last ditch defending, drama up to the final whistle. Goals are great & I want to win, but sometimes neither team deserves to win.

How to fix soccer with one rule change: 1. No offsides when ball is possessed in the penalty box by the attacking team. Defend the whole box like an American football end-zone. A bit tough innit?
