@healy_sharon That is what any reasonable person wants. Legal migration, background checks, qualifications, quality of person etc. It is the very least we deserve. I don’t care what colour anyone is after that.

Direct Democracy in Switzerland could scupper the European plans to move to totally digital currency and ditch cash. In a recent referendum 73% of Swiss voted to keep physical cash permanently. Cash makes the financial control of the people much more difficult if not impossible.

In a time where the EU looks to impose its Digital Euro and eliminate cash from circulation, Switzerland voted to enshrine a “right to cash” into its Constitution. This is the way forward for countries. All EU countries should follow suit.

I wouldn’t wish this pain on my worst enemy. I truly hope all our campaigning makes a real difference for children across Ireland. They deserve so much better. I still want to believe this country has a bright future, but right now with this Government, it feels lost and broken

@RealIrishNews @maryharryheff Expecting the truth and consistency from someone running for public office isn't about race, it’s about accountability. If the details don't line up with the narrative being sold on the doorstep, that is a matter of integrity, not identity.

Helen Ogbu, who entered Ireland and claimed Asylum under false pretenses in 2004/2005, claiming her husband was killed in Nigeria when infact he died in 2010. Ogbu had previously had a baby in Ireland on a short trip in 2001 to utilize for later citizenship purposes. Here she is begging 'New Citizens' to register to vote in Galway West, one of the most remote and ethically Irish parts of the country.

The Irish government pulled the plug on its €1 million grant for Benefacts, effectively killing the only watchdog tracking Ireland's €14 billion charity sector. The the state used a "value for money" excuse to bury transparency and stop the independent body from prying into how public funds were being spent. It had detailed breakdowns of charity funding, spending and executive salaries. It acted as a financial map, turning messy filings into clear data on how €14 billion was raised and spent across the sector. Why did the Department of Public Expenditure and Reform DPER under Michael McGrath and Paschal O’Donohue ignore the Central Statistics Office and cancel the only publicly accessible, highly regarded website?
Meda Carey@IrelandMeda

Benefacts was an independent, non-governmental organisation in Ireland 2014–2022 that provided a comprehensivesearchable database of over 18,000–20,000 nonprofit, voluntary, and charitable organizations. It was established to increase transparency. It provided a unique, centralised database that was used by the Irish CSO for national accounts. *The government concluded that the "business case" for continued support was no longer justified, despite objections from the Benefacts board and concerns regarding a loss of transparency in the charity sector. 🚨 EXTREMELY ALARMING: John Kerry at the WEF just said the quiet part out loud: "Our First Amendment stands as a major block to the ability to hammer "disinformation" out of existence... We need to win the right to govern so we’re free to implement change." They don’t want to debate ideas. They want to delete them. The elite’s war on free speech is now on full display. RETWEET if you still believe the 1st Amendment is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Let me know what you think, and SHARE THIS so that others may too!

🚨 Klaus Schwab just admitted the quiet part out loud. "The world will no longer be run by superpowers like America… it will be run by the World Economic Forum and its stakeholders; BlackRock, Bill Gates, and the rest of the global elite." They're not even pretending anymore... National governments? Out. Your freedom? A subscription service. Your future? Managed by unelected billionaires in Davos. This is the Great Reset in real time... a corporate takeover of the planet. Wake up. Push back. Share this before they memory-hole it.

@fitzcavendish @AoifeMFoley It provided a public utility. The odd part is the government didn’t stop wanting the data, they simply wanted it for their eyes only.

@IrelandMeda @AoifeMFoley Benefacts wasn't a watchdog. It just presented data provided by the government. It was not very transparent about its own operations. About the 5th version of the same idea with the same politically connected CEO each time. Good riddance.

Yes. By design. During 2021 Dáil debates, Ministers Michael McGrath and Paschal Donohoe justified the closure of data hub Benefacts by citing the need to ensure public expenditure remained affordable. While overseeing the budget, they defended the cessation of funding as a necessary fiscal decision despite uproar and claims that it reduced transparency over the nonprofit sector. 1 million was nothing in the scheme of things.

Thread: NGOs or Government Organizations? 19-page report on Ireland’s charity sector The charity/NGO sector in Ireland now equals 11% of GDP, bigger than many major industries. Yet 84.7% of all funding comes from the State. Non-Irish Focused (NIF) charities dependent on 82.9% funding from government money. Using the official Public Register of Charities (2020–2024), this report shows: - NIF charities grew from 9% to 13% of the sector - The 2022 Ukraine-driven reallocation of staff & funding - Why many “independent” NGOs function more like State service-delivery arms - Minimal private revenue, thin reserves, and huge vulnerability to policy changes This report stemmed from a result by @JakeFitzsimons into NGOs in Ireland. If you have any requests, please do, reach out. First Thread - Cover, TOC and Executive Summary

The section 38 list is a who's who of the largest quasi-state bodies in Ireland. There are roughly 40 to 45 major agencies in this category. Unlike smaller groups, these are treated as part of the public sector for pay and pensions, yet they retain their own private boards and operating assumptions.

That's still the issue: they are using public staff, but the ones making the decisions—the board—are independent of the government's governance structures. This is important to note: these are NGOs, and the staff is allowing them to call their staff public employees. And it is easy to see why the government doesn't want them as government bodies. It's great for the GDP figure; without them being a government body, the transfer of funds from one to another gets accounted for twice, but only once if they were part of the government.

@JFHurstX You have correctly identified the grey area of the Irish health sector. These (38 & 39)are the primary groups, organisations that are almost entirely funded by the HSE but operate with their own independent boards.

@IrelandMeda I expect that - in casual conversation with the board - I would be appalled by their operating assumptions and views. Which they - no doubt - simply regard as 'correct' opinion. Chief amongst these I expect would be the view that it is the role of the media to shape opinion.

Because Section 39 workers are not public servants, they didn't get the same pay restoration as HSE staff after the 2008 crash. This has led to constant industrial action and strike threats like those in late 2023 and 2025 as these NGOs demand the government bridge the pay gap to help them retain staff.

You are right. Benefacts did include these organisations in its database because legally they are registered as Companies Limited by Guarantee (CLG) or Registered Charities not as statutory state bodies. However, the level of government control varies significantly Section 38 Organisations:-These are the largest "NGOs" (like major voluntary hospitals). While they have independent boards, their staff are technically public servants and are paid directly on HSE pay scales. They are so closely tied to the state that they are often listed in the Register of Public Sector Bodies. Section 39 Organisations:-These are the community and voluntary groups like local disability or home care services. They are private, independently run entities. Their staff are not public servants, and their boards have full autonomy over pay and conditions even though 90% of their money might come from the HSE.
