@harold_bracy @shagbark_hick "SHTF" is a wide open term that so many people seem to have specifically defined in their heads. We don't know what "SHTF" we'll get until it happens.

@shagbark_hick In a SHTF scenario, there won't be repo men. You should have enormous food stores, yes (Mormon website is the absolute best for this) But I don't think you should be optimizing to avoid bureaucrats that will be extinct in a SHTF scenario.

You've got to be planning for poverty. Assume that you're GOING to lose it all. Assume that when you do lose it all, the economy will be in shambles, and you will have to beg for ANY job just to make ends meet. Make sure that you could live on minimum wage or less. If you do this, but wind up earning big money anyway, you keep more of it. But you move with total insurance that even if you lose everything, and things fall apart / don't work out -- you'll be OK. Keep the cupboard STOCKED. Remember that rice is $0.50/lb and will keep you from starving when your time comes. Don't be afraid of eating squirrel, carp, dandelion. Train your family to be ready for another Great Depression if need be. I have no idea why people aren't thinking like this more. Absolutely nothing is guaranteed in our economic system, and if and when you lose it all, you do not want to have gigantic sums ($2,000+) in mandatory monthly expenses. You do not want the repo man to come around, you do not want to lose your house, you do not want to look at the cupboard and see that it is empty. Anyone who has ever really been hard up knows this stuff intuitively. Some deride it as "survival mode," as if it were a mental illness to have this type of foresight. It is not, it is basic necessity. Don't live as if the "good times" will never end. They very well may.

If you kept your expectations within reason, I think that the ATF's rule changes are excellent. We of course must wait for the text of the proposed rules before getting ahead of ourselves, and SAF will be doing comment letters as needed to help shape them into the best form we can get. I already have a few ideas for further improvements to suggest. But assuming the summaries are a fair representation of what the text of the rules says, I am very pleased overall.

@MorosKostas Even small wins are good. If they lead to fewer people being locked up for not harming anyone, I'm happy about that.

@OpenSCADGuns @ATFHQ It would allow records that are already that old to be destroyed, which a future admin couldn’t really undo.

I’m glad to see this was among the proposals unveiled by @ATFHQ today. But the retention period needs to be much shorter. 20-30 years isn’t functionally much different from Biden’s indefinite retention policy. Traces are not going to be effective on transactions that old. People don’t buy guns and wait 25 years to commit a crime. We need to hammer this point in the public comments. Under no circumstances should the retention period be more than 5-10 years.

@bryanlafonte @ATFHQ I guess my point is that we get to actually benefit from some of the other changes. This one likely doesn't matter unless they lower it 2 years or less OR the next admin agrees with the change. It's just a waste of time.

@bryanlafonte @ATFHQ Does a long time span like that even matter when some future admin is likely to just change it anyway? I get that they are likely to change all of this, but it stands out with a 20 or 30 year span mentioned.

After more than a year of reviewing rules and regulations with input from stakeholders and legal experts, ATF is preparing to release multiple Notices of Proposed Rulemaking and Final Rules. This afternoon, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche will announce the rollout of a landmark package of 34 proposed and final rules representing the culmination of DOJ’s and ATF’s comprehensive regulatory review conducted pursuant to the direction in Executive Order 14206 “Protecting Second Amendment Rights.” This milestone marks a significant step forward in the Administration’s commitment to regulatory reform and is reflective of ATF’s New Era of Reform launched last year. This event will be available via livestream at justice.gov/live. #NewEra #WeAreATF

3rd-grade civics class because apparently everyone needs it really bad: Congress passes laws. ATF enforces laws. ATF cannot undo laws. ATF shouldn't write rules that act like laws. That's bad. ATF should remove and heavily edit rules that suck. That's good. You can want the ATF gone completely, and all gun laws gone, and still accept these realities without coming across as an annoying, ignorant turbosperg.

First, there is no such thing as a "full automatic" AR-15. Second, an Army Ranger firing an M-16 in either automatic or 3-round burst at a distance of 15 meters is highly unlikely to strike an enemy combatant in the head, the right arm, and the right side unless said Ranger was violently waving his weapon around like a maniac. Your post is a complete fabrication. So, in answer to your question, yes, I am sure about that.

I love that @loyalmoses keep trying to tell machinist/cnc people that stupid things like this were going to absolutely fuck their industry up and no one cared/listened. Now states are passing bullshit CNC bans. In 2 years cosplayers are going to be getting their doors knocked in because some bullshit AI software thought their prop gun was a real gun and their laptop reported them to the feds. It's always "it'll never come for me, oh it wont pass, oh you're fear mongering" well the chickens are out here roostin. Roostin they'll continue to do.

@Atlas_Leather It's supposed to really help with the heat resistance, which is why I bought it. I'll let you know how it goes when I eventually get around to testing.

@ProgSocJazz @Guysloveguns No one seriously believes that being in a militia is a requirement. If they did, it would be illegal to own firearms without being in a milita. That's not a thing anywhere in the US.

@AgingAnarchist Broad restrictions on all gun owners isn't necessary. 99%+ of us never harm anyone in anyway with our guns. The problem is the 1%, not us and not the guns. Gun control isn't the solution to anything other than government wanting to control us.

アメリカは、もしかしたら銃を持ってるかもしれない、って空気が社会を包んでいるから、それが犯罪を抑止している場合もある。銃規制なんて言うのはいいけど、具体的にどうすればいいの?無理だと思うんだけど。
