One of the greatest pieces of wisdom ever offered by the Supreme Court, came in a 1928 dissent by Justice Brandeis: “Experience should teach us to be most on our guard to protect liberty when the government’s purposes are beneficent. Men born to freedom are naturally alert to repel invasion of their liberty by evil-minded rulers. The greatest dangers to liberty lurk in insidious encroachment by men of zeal, well-meaning but without understanding.” A portion of this passage is inscribed in the Cox Corridor at the US Capitol below a painting of Washington’s Farewell Address.

I suspect this is a hedge incase he thinks Rubio's momentum keeps building or something. Gives an offramp he's already setup. He's young enough that, so long as he's cool with Rubio, he could take a high ranking cabinet position and try for the Presidency later. A bit unorthodox for a VP to do that, but why not.

They'd have four young kids, including a toddler, which would be tough heading into a presidential campaign. But 2028 as the sitting vice president is going to be the best shot he ever has, so it would take a lot to get him to give that up, and I'm not sure young kids is enough.
Politics & Poll Tracker 📡@PollTracker2024

WaPo: JD Vance has maintained in recent private conversations that he hasn’t yet decided whether he will seek the presidential nomination for 2028. One of those people cited Vance’s fourth child, due this summer, and said the vice president has put a priority on his family life and is unlikely to make a final decision until he and Usha Vance see how another baby affects their lives.

When I think of 2A heroes in the legal world, one man always comes to mind. Today we gave our Chief Legal Counsel, @Arrinba3870, our .50 Cal Freedom Award. The left may have an endless pit of money and an army of lawyers, but we have a champion. We are endlessly grateful.

NEW: The New Jersey Appellate Division released a PUBLISHED (meaning it has precedential value and is binding) opinion yesterday, dealing a MAJOR BLOW to the scope of the "public health, safety and welfare" disqualifier. This opinion will have a tremendously positive impact on the outcome of my case. @gunforhirerange @News2ATeam @njnics2a @cnjfo njcourts.gov/system/files/c…

Oh jeeze. Can someone who knows him please tell Judge Grasz about the travelers exception laws? Because that is EXACTLY what our historical tradition says; travelers get special leeway when it comes to the right to carry. So infuriating this didn't come up at all, such a missed opportunity in the 8th Circuit. I really wish I managed to submit an amicus brief there. I realize the argument hasn't been raised, but they should remand it for new briefing and a ruling with the travelers exception history factored in. If they would just read our Gardner brief....ugh.

FRIENDLY REMINDER: In Colorado you are justified in using deadly force against someone who unlawfully enters your home if you reasonably believe he intends to commit another crime and that he might use any physical force (no matter how slight) against you.
Boulder Police Dept.@boulderpolice

Recognize this Burglary Suspect? Few things are scarier than learning a stranger broke into your home, especially when you were there asleep. But that’s what happened recently to some young women in our community, and it’s why we’re sharing these surveillance photos today to identify the suspect. This unknown man had tried to enter the home in the 1100 block of Grandview Avenue unsuccessfully several times this month before finally getting inside after finding the door ajar during one such attempt. The break-in occurred just before 2 a.m. and the women inside only found out when they watched their camera the next day. The suspect is thought to have used an adjacent parking lot to gain access to the home by climbing into the back and side yards and then entering through the door. He is described as a possibly Latino male, approximately 5’8” tall, in his 30’s with dark hair, a moustache and goatee. If you recognize this man or have any information about these crimes please contact Detective Brown at BrownJ1@bouldercolorado.gov or call our tipline at 303-441-1974 regarding case 26-2177. Please share these photos to help us identify this suspect, Boulder.

@HowardMSklar Yeah I kind of remember that (maybe the 3rd Circuit panel?). That seems like a bad faith approach by a defiant lower court not something SCOTUS would endorse.

@bryanlafonte Another Court, I think Illinois, the 7th Circuit?, looked at an AR ban and just looked at the Colt model, saying they hadn't properly pled the rest, or something like that.

Another question on "in common use": how specific do you get? If we say pistols are in common use, can the state respond that the p365 may be, but the Atlas Athena isn't? Can the state regulate hammer-fired pistols because they're not as popular as striker-fired? Or steel framed pistols? Not in common use, but polymer is? Can they say that *some* ARs are in common use, but not others? I don't think I've heard a State make this argument, but it's not a terrible one. Thoughts, @JesusOseteDOJ @AAGDhillon @fourboxesdiner @MorosKostas @hannahhill_sc @2Aupdates @robdoar @ppatterson85 @Arrinba3870 @GunWashington

How is it a false choice? There’s only 3 possibilities: 1. Your gun is more likely to be used in a crime if you keep it on you. 2. Your gun is more likely to be used in a crime if you leave it in the car. 3. Your gun is equally likely to be used in a crime if it is on you as if you leave it in a car. One of these statements must be true.

@bryanlafonte It’s a false choice. If, for whatever reason, I need to leave my gun in the car, I lock it in the glove box where it can’t be seen. I honestly thought that was already the law in Virginia. It’s what any intelligent adult would do.

NEW: Colorado AG Phil Weiser (D) joins seven other state AGs in suing to block the acquisition of TEGNA (9NEWS) by Nexstar (Fox31), citing anti-monopoly law. The lawsuit says deal would raise prices for consumers and lead to newsroom closures in combined markets like Denver.

@JohnSobased @mister447 I absolutely campaigned against my state’s excise tax. Outdoor gear would need to be defined by a new law but it would include things like tents, sleeping bags, hiking boots, hunting blinds, game calls, etc.

@bryanlafonte @mister447 You never campaigned against your own state excise tax, why should anyone take you seriously on the P-R? Also you could have just searched my TL to know I'm pro. So back to original question. What constitutes "outdoor gear"

@mnguncaucus Our nation was founded with privately made firearms. And privately made firearms remain common and vital to our defense. The goal of proponents of universal serial numbers is registration, then confiscation. Let's stop SF 3661 #mnleg 2A

@JohnSobased @mister447 There we have it: you think violating the constitution is okay as long as it’s for a good cause. I simply disagree. And if you’re dumb enough to believe manufacturers don’t pass the cost of the P-R tax on to consumers, I’m afraid I can’t help you.

The constitution gets violated every day by politicians. At least it improves lives and the outdoors instead of being pilfered to line the pockets of politicians and their companies. (Which is what the Colorado one does) So what are you doing about it other than crying online for a tax paid by manufacturers (not you)

@JohnSobased @mister447 Violating the constitution for a good cause is still violating the constitution. Why not put a special tax on non-firearm outdoor gear instead?
