Impunity has led to increased M23 horrors in eastern Congo. The #Rwanda-backed rebels now cram civilians—including journalists—into shipping containers with no light, ventilation, minimal food, daily beatings. Atrocities unchecked = atrocities escalated. apnews.com/article/congo-…

The radiotherapy machine at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has been broken for more than three months. Cancer patients are deteriorating in waiting rooms, missing treatment sessions, and running out of options. While cancer patients wait and deteriorate, the government has been consumed by boardroom battles at Nairobi Hospital, a private facility that most of these patients will never be able to afford. #HealthyNation zurl.co/tO2ab

As promised on Friday, we proceeded with laboratory testing of meat samples to verify whether they were truly beef or donkey meat. Following requests from many people, we collected samples from several locations across Nairobi, including Bama Market, City Market, Pipeline, Ngong, and Githurai. The results shown below in image 3 are a snippet from the first batch of 10 samples tested. Using PCR species identification, 2 samples tested positive for donkey meat. These were Sample 3 and Sample 7 (~374 bp band). One sample originated from Ngong, and the other from Pipeline. So far, across the 20+ samples tested, approximately 6 samples have tested positive for donkey meat. We are compiling the full report, which will be shared tomorrow or by Tuesday at the latest. Thank you to everyone who supported this effort through our till number and helped make the testing possible. Stay tuned for the next update. For those unfamiliar with PCR gels: The higher band (~374 bp) indicates donkey DNA, while the lower band (~271 bp) indicates beef DNA.

Every year, I will congratulate @KWSKenya on the breathtaking stupidity of defiling our national park with the safari rally. Today, I can add photos of fans killing an impala in broad daylight at the rally. I hope they spared some meat for the winners. Pics from @StandardKenya

Two questions on people’s minds. Is Mr Rostaz a figleaf for other background investors? What does the Aga Khan’s decision mean for press freedom in Kenya, East Africa and Africa in general? What happens now to the former Aga Khan’s values that the Nation fought for: democratic societies, free markets, rights of minorities, East African integration, pride in our African identity, good governance and respect for human rights? Will Mr Aziz protect these values with the same zeal and fortitude?

When it comes to collecting cash - bring in all the high tech equipment, train all the qualified staff, make sure it all works and everyone can be tracked down… Yet people have drowned in their cars.

Unfortunately 32 kids were swept away. Spent the better part of the day feeding the street families and celebrating international women’s day with the strong women. We gave them 5 months of pads and diaper. We urgently need shelter and warm clothes .

I'm in an Uber to Ruaka. The guy is describing to me how bad the situation was yesterday 💔. He says you could see someone drowning with their car but there's nothing you can do because you're fighting for your life. Anasema the videos we are seeing ni watu walikua in better situations to record. The worst was not recorded. Aliingia Kilimani and entered an unknown apartment, luckily the security sympathized and allowed him to park his car there.

This photo says a lot. @KenyaRedCross volunteers from @Krcs_NRbBranch engaged in search and rescue in the dead of the night. Searching for those marooned by waters, the injured and dead. It was cold and wet. They could be with their families enjoying the safety and comfort of their homes. But they chose to serve their communities at the hour of need. Right now they are on standby. Away from their families. Ready to serve in all parts of the country. To the volunteers of @KenyaRedCross , we are eternally grateful for your service. Serve one another. Always There.
