@_fat_ugly_rat_ these aren’t real tickets. you just get them in the mail. they dont even have a hearing date, a private company sends them out he’s a cop and he knows this, so he doesn’t pay them

@St2station That is because the articles you are reading are not true. The reason is plummeting birthrates.

Every wall of text about ‘Here’s What City X did to lower violent crime’ is just ‘They made crime illegal again and arrested the people doing it and threw the book at them, no matter how many of the perps happened to be POC.’ ‘Criminology’ is about making that sound complicated.

@BrainLeakage03 I actually am wondering now if a lot of recent movies were written by AI. It would make sense in the context of the writers’ strike.

@__FannyPack @rwlesq Low pay, they accepted. When the government shut down last year there was *no* pay for several weeks. Only a weird billionaire stepping in to cover their paychecks resolved the issue.

@Snake_With_Feet @rwlesq this would be true if it wasnt a volunteer military... usually those things happen when service is forced on people and they feel like it's for nothing. volunteers already accepted the low pay and bad food in exchange for doing cool things with big guns

I really wish that America's bourgeoisie revolutionaries would think through the consequences should they be successful. The US, is, in fact, a pretty good place to live and (with certain notable exceptions) has been a net positive influence on the world. The US as a failed state would be a pretty shitty place to live and leave a damaging gap in the international order. And your imagined socialist utopia is just not going to happen.
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

It also all seems incredibly fake, like he’s a comfortable Twitch streamer and niche internet celebrity not an underground revolutionary. God forbid people in the audience don’t get that it’s all a joke and actually head out and do crimes.

@rwlesq The question for you (and everyone in the bourgeoisie) is whether you want the effete intellectual revolutionaries to run the country, who you can perhaps badger into normalcy— or whether you want a coup, which is where we are headed.

@rwlesq You have a lot more to fear from a military coup than you do from any “bourgeois revolutionaries.” We already had a scare last year where the troops weren’t getting paid. It will keep happening until the troops take matters into their own hands—and there’s your failed state.

@hellspatisserie This was invalidated at the circuit court level already. We will have to see what the higher court says. IMO, they should’ve worded this better. I came in without having read the amendment text and was very confused.

@ByrneHobart NYT is pro democrat, and is aware some democrats are tough on crime, so it will sometimes write something tough on crime.

For all the complaints about left-leaning media bias, the NYT published a piece today that makes a pretty strong case for sentencing shoplifters to a minimum of twenty years of hard labor.

@jewshido @strxwmxn But it was the Levites and priests who wrote the bulk of Torah, and they were not from Judaea, but merely operated there. Josephus explains that the term “Jew” derives from the tribe of Judah which led the return from exile.

@Snake_With_Feet @strxwmxn The term is a derivation of Judea from where the Jews come. Judaism being the religion of the people from Judea. It’s like you’re making an effort to be a retard.

@DawsonJed @peter_sarris It would have been historically accurate to call st. george “Asian,” and would have had the same provocative effect to a UK audience. He’s just saying things that are wrong on purpose to bait engagement.

@peter_sarris Kev's a good journalist, I think he's using the 'Turkish-trope' rather than Cappadocian as it causes just the right amount of outrage!!!! 😂 He'll probably be sat in a pub garden now enjoying all the mirth 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🍺🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

@gluva1989 @atlanticesque she has no assets, the only lender she can find is a sketchy guy who (as a security for consistent payments) has her sign a deed to him. He explains he won’t record this deed if payments are made consistently. She fails to make payments consistently, he records, she cries foul.

Anti-Zionists always love to laugh at the Zionist "God promised this land 3,000 years ago" strawman But at the same time they really believe that a handful of nomadic Bedouin tribes who arrived in the area in the 19th century have a full claim to the entire Negev, the Jordan Valley, the Judean Desert, huge parts of the Galilee... over 2/3 of the territory of "historical Palestine" because of some weird "blood and soil" racial Arab claim

@citrushemlock @atlanticesque I had thought it meant that the amendment would require a proposed map be “fair,” however that’s defined. I was very surprised to find that by “fairness in the upcoming elections,” they meant each party gets to do a bit of gerrymandering if it so chooses. Which is hardly “fair.”

@atlanticesque I think 'to do xxx' is reasonably interpreted as a statement of intent rather than outcome. ballot questions often use this phrasing, even when the results are debatable, because it gives context for why it's being proposed, and I don't think there's a better way to do that

@RatAlt64 @atlanticesque my thoughts looking at it were (1) “they must still be hashing out the amendment text, and only asking what I think about the general concept.” (2) “their amendment must include a ‘fairness’ requirement for proposed maps.” (3) “Are they trying to do elections ahead of midterms?”

@atlanticesque I genuinely can't tell what's misleading about it. Says precisely what it's going to do, why it's being done, and for what relevant period. Seems like you'd have to be either illiterate or willfully misreading it to be upset
