An excellent thread here from @mara_yamauchi. I truly admire her perseverance on this issue in the face of parkrun's continued failure to acknowledge that women matter too. Hopefully the perseverance pays off soon 🤞
Mara Yamauchi@mara_yamauchi

My thoughts on @parkrun founder Paul Sinton-Hewitt’s comments in this interview.👇 1. It’s good that he is openly admitting what he previously called “the gender thing” is a problem. But parkrun has had years to fix it. I met the previous CEO in June 2023. Since then,…

@jo_bartosch You might agree but you will not like it when the age verification requirement clears out those who need to advocate for various causes you support from behind an anonymous account. This may well be the death of the protection of anonymity. Also a double edged sword of course.

I am in general agreement that trans girls who have gone through testosterone dominant puberty should not compete directly against ciis girls for prizes or scholarships But I don’t think the amount of bilious hatred directed by grown ass adults at this high school trans girl is going to age well There are ways to advocate against laws which facilitate trans girls being included in women’s sports without being mean, hurtful, vicious, or hateful towards a young person who has a long journey ahead of them.

Our elected Members have agreed that Hampstead Heath’s Bathing Ponds will remain trans-inclusive spaces under a future access policy. Upgrades to toilets and shower areas will also improve facilities, privacy, and changing areas, with more private cubicles for swimmers. ➡️sbrew.link/s6ElP0eq

Arguing about the wrong law, arguing that women should not be allowed to congregate without interference from men, denying the reality of same sex attraction. Sexist, homophobic, stupid. The union movement is a lost cause and certainly not the friend of working class women.
Unison London LGBT+@unisonldnlgbt

Opposing the EHRC guidance: Over the next 30 days, UNISON is trying to convince as many MPs as possible to oppose the guidance on single sex spaces. The union wants examples of how the guidance is unworkable in your workplace. Please send examples to out@unison.co.uk

Well this is quite the roll of dishonour - MPs who don't understand that the law in question is the Equality Act, as interpreted by the Supreme Court. So who are trying to prevent statutory guidance on that law from being approved, because 🤷‍♀️ edm.parliament.uk/early-day-moti…

@TVAddictStill @soniasodha The SC is the highest court in the land, and its decisions are final. Supreme Court… clue is in the name. Only new legislation specifically aimed at removing women’s right to assemble freely without interference from men will change it. Good luck with that.

@soniasodha Disapproving the code will signal that Parliament disagrees with the EHRC's interpretation of the law. I think it will take at least one more court case to straighten this out, (so not till after the next general election). Until then the SC FWS decision is rendered ineffective.

I’m in New Zealand. There’s a bill before parliament to define a woman but the unions are fighting it hard. I fear we are losing the public opinion battle. What wisdom do the Terven in other countries have to share? How do we get them to see? They are not on X.

@PulaRJS How about this. We make it socially unacceptable for men, even the ones that don’t want to be seen as men, to go into women’s spaces. Then, there will be no need for policing because everyone will adhere to the social contract that men stay out of women’s spaces. Easy.

The new guidance from the EHRA brings a sledge hammer to the complex area of single sex spaces. As the EHRC acknowledges – it’s impossible to know what “biological” sex someone is. Even if toilet police were to start inspecting people – what would an inspection of someone who has medically transitioned reveal? "Concerns raised by other service users" will be a key factor in determining whether the owners of facilities should approach people to ask their gender. This should be done "sensitively". If anyone can explain how you approach a woman in public toilets and ask "do you have or have you ever had a penis” sensitively I’m all ears. I may be missing something here. But I don’t see how this is anything other than a charter for toilet vigilantes to hound, not just trans people, but any woman who fails to conform to conventional ideas of femininity. novaramedia.com/2026/05/29/tra…

@JustinBonomo Israel is a democracy with proportional representation. 20% of the citizen population are arabs, with other ethnicities represented. At least 10 seats in parliament are not Jewish parties, 1000’s of non Jews serve in the army. What exactly will this different state look like?

I want non-Jews to understand how monumental this shift as. As Jews we are raised with endless propaganda about how great Israel is. It’s part of our prayers, our family gatherings, our education, our extra curricular activities, even our fraternities. It’s everywhere, and there’s never another side presented. I practically never even heard the word Palestinian growing up. There was no asterisk next to how great Israel was. No war crimes to atone for. No ethnic cleansing, no open air prison, no list of massacres - just endless propaganda. And free paid trips to Israel from billionaires to try to convince us to move there. And that’s not to even mention the generic American propaganda we all face daily. So it’s absolutely staggering, that in the face of that endless, relentless propaganda, 44% of young American Jews favor the establishment of one non-religious state in Israel/occupied Palestine. Many of us are pissed that we’ve been lied to. We’ve done the research and learned the history about how truly Hitlerian Israel’s history is. This isn’t something that just happens by accident. You don’t have such large percentages of people mistakenly turning against their families, cultures, and traditions due to misinformation or misunderstandings. This kind of shift can only happen when people are exposed to the absolute worst horrors on the planet that their people have committed. The human psyche can justify or use cognitive dissonance for almost anything. But the evils from Israel have gone too far for far too long. Nobody with a conscience who is educated about what Israel has done for the past hundred years can come to a conclusion other than, “Israel in its current form should simply not exist.”
Ben Lorber@BenLorber8

Nearly half of American Jews under 35 support a binational state in Israel/Palestine according to a recent poll. If we define Zionism as support for a Jewish state, nearly half of young Jews are non/anti-Zionist. More young Jews support binationalism than a two state solution.

@LordWalney It is not women’s job to deal with the problems men have because some of them have issues. That is men’s problem and they should deal with it without forcing women to make any compromises on their safety or privacy. Leave women out of this. It’s not their problem to solve.

Not the side I usually fall on, but am really troubled by implications of this for many trans people who will be at greater risk if they simply switch public bathrooms as currently constituted. I hope there is a way that women’s right to single-sex spaces can be delivered without putting others at greater risk

While there are meaningful conversations to have about gender, people with a UK gender recognition certificate, who have gone through hoops to “prove” their gender, deserve to be protected. In addition to stripping trans people of their civil rights and basic dignity, the frenzy of this is sure to create a hostile, dangerous environment for trans people. What is the benefit of preventing trans people from accessing a mammogram? Seriously. Please tell me.

The Supreme Court ruling only changed the definition of 'woman/female and man/male' for the purposes of the act. Service providers can provide EA2010 single sex spaces, or draw up their own policies, which may include trans people in their spaces according to gender identity.
Juo (they/them) 𓅃@JuoPosts

The EHRC guidance is just that. Guidance. Not law. It's not mandatory to follow it. I'm looking forward to laughing at TERFs when they try to cite the guidance as a legal basis to exclude trans people or police genders, then asking them to cite an actual law which doesn't exist.
