Feedback need: SlateDB's Python API uses pyo3, which supports Python/Rust async integration. The other bindings use slatedb-c (C FFI ABI), which is sync. Ideally, I want all bindings use one layer (FFI) to simplify maintenance. Should I ditch pyo3 and async Python support, tho?

@mitsuhiko That and insisting that Python 3.14+ syntax for “except TypeError, ValueError:” is Python 2. Which is technically correct.. but.

My least favorite feature is that LLMs love to use "python3 -m py_compile" to validate python syntax and then create a bunch of __pycache__ folders

Fun fact, a Python exception that stringiifies a large list of complex objects can easily OOM a K8S Pod.

Most impactful change in the Claude Code update today and no one's talking about it.

@kellabyte I’ve found GenAI does well with Rust especially when clippy in pedantic mode is turned on. The great error messages help ensure less craziness.

One interesting thing about HoloStore is it’s written in Rust and I’ve never written Rust before (it’s on my near term todo to learn). But it’s interesting directing AI to build something in a language you’ve never used before.

@mitchellh My dad recently dug up the Lionel sets he has as a kid from the basement for my youngest niece. He and my brother have been having a great time cleaning and rebuilding all the cars.

She opened a box car and a million hole punch shavings came out and she goes "daddy what's that?" I used to use hole-punched paper as "cargo." At some point in my childhood, I loaded them for one last trip, unbeknownst to me my own daughter would rediscover them 30 years later.

Uncovered some of my childhood model train sets and my daughter is loving it (2y). It's a totally unique feeling watching my own child play with a set of toys I played with when I was only a little older than her, too. She's been so good about being gentle with them, too.

@dieworkwear If I wanted to get a !(custom) suit for my company holiday in SF or Oakland, where should I go? I’m a fan of Italian style overall, but also wear Acronym, Rip Van Winkle, Devoa, etc.

I will probably not be posting much for a while here as my absolutely one of a kind rehusband Paul Boutin passed of a suddenly advancing cancer last night. Polymath musician engineer journalist and generous to a fault.

@dsully Seems like some relevant stuff there. I wonder if the teacher will connect any of it to current events.

@criccomini Yeah, I’m very familiar with Mermaid. Just wasn’t sure if you were referring to them generically or in terms of some usage with Helm which has a “Chart” noun. (I fucking despise Helm)

@mitsuhiko Yeah it's an interesting use-case to consider for sure. I've gone back and forth on the value of it over "Just use uvx".
