@KishoreIyer5 Stop justifying a lost cause. BJP in TN got just 2.5% votes in this election. Under Annamalai it had gone to 12%, first time ever! Now BJP is finished in TN, they never had or have any hardworking leader.

Annamalai wouldn't have anyways continued in BJP cos he has himself claimed to be a rebel and rebels can't function in an established structure. Annamalai wanted to carve the TNBJP in his image which didn't happen cos you do have legacy players.

Annamalai's & BJP's was a good symbiotic relationship that ended well. By the looks of it the central BJP unit used Annamalai well as a mercenary and Annamalai used the central BJP well to increase his visibility. His extension in BJP had some preconditions which weren't met

I used to wait for Kanhaiya Kumar's speeches on every national issue, he was so vocal on everything related to students and youth. He is completely out of the scene now, feels like a wasted talent now. Why is Congress not using his oratory skills? Where is Kanhaiya Kumar??

Agree that Rahul Gandhi is among the best politicians in India right now. He has something India desperately needs - decency and idealism, rather than settling for low standards, poor morals and incitement. Even better, this new avatar doesn't fear defeat. He keeps trying. His voice is extremely necessary right now. I am not a Congressi, but @Ram_Guha comparing Rahul Gandhi unfavourably with Modi is pretty unhinged.
MM@mmvp2005

Writing this without an iota of hate of ill-will toward @Ram_Guha , @HartoshSinghBal , Harish Khare, @tavleen_singh @waglenikhil and many other Gandhi family baiters who have repeatedly targeted Rahul Gandhi and his politics of opposition to the Modi led BJP. I now understand that most of you are still fighting the @INCIndia of 1975 and 1984 among others just as the Sangh is fighting the Congress of Gandhi and Nehru. Much of legacy media and social media are dominated by these two groups. But here's a third group which became politicised in 1992 with the rise of Hindutva- the pro- Rahul Gandhi voice on social media is roughly this group of Gen X ers and a motley mix of a new millennials and GenX. We are disturbed by the repeated attacks on Rahul Gandhi not because we are members of the Congress party or are blind followers of any cult- we are disturbed because the anti-Congressism of the earlier groups is blinding most toward the clear and present danger that stares before us - the existential threat to our Republic. Rahul Gandhi is among the very few of our politicians who has been able to consistently articulate that danger by his fearless attacks on the Sangh and its agenda of destroying the secular fabric of this country. He might never become Prime Minister of this country - but history will be kinder towards him than many of you would like to believe.

Indian Supreme Court's greatest success has been to fool people like Ram Guha into believing that Modi govt won election after election because of Rahul Gandhi's leadership abilities, & not because Court (and other democratic institutions) has been treating Opposition like trash
Ramachandra Guha@Ram_Guha

Dear @ShashiTharoor , I enjoyed your spirited defence of Rahul Gandhi. Alas, it does not address the central thesis of my column and interview—his dismal leadership record. The facts speak for themselves. The Congress suffered heavy defeats in three successive General Elections fought under his leadership. Meanwhile, the number of Congress MLAs has come down by almost 50% under his watch. In 2013, the Congress was in power in 14 states. That was the party Rahul Gandhi inherited. Now the Congress is in power in just 5 states. As the countrywide footprint of the party shrinks, surely its principal leader should be held accountable? Or is that a question too uncomfortable for the Congress to face?

Sajid Yousuf Shah@TheSkandar

Today, I experienced something that left me deeply saddened. After checking into a hotel in Aurangabad, Maharashtra, I was later (After an hour) asked to leave because of concerns linked to my Kashmiri identity. The owner was courteous & candid. He acknowledged that the decision was unfair and hurtful, but said he was following instructions. I appreciated his honesty and left without any confrontation. I am not sharing this to seek sympathy or assign blame. I share it because such moments remind us that while laws can unite a nation, trust and understanding take longer to build. For decades, countless Kashmiris have worked to strengthen the bonds between Jammu & Kashmir and the rest of India. Most Indians have welcomed us with warmth and respect. Yet incidents like this show that stereotypes and apprehensions persist. My faith in India and its people remains unshaken. I hope we continue moving toward a future where no citizen is judged by their region, faith, or identity, but by their character and conduct. That is the India we must strive for. 2007 was travelling to Seoul via Singapore from Bangalore. The contrast couldn't have been sharper, Bangalore's older HAL airport was basically a glorified bus stand. Singapore, Seoul/Inchon airports were a world apart. Was wondering when I would see such airports in India. Was even worse coming back landing in Mumbai, slum right next to airport, pot bellied customs officials literally extorting from hapless Indian passengers coming from Gulf. In recent times been to Kempe Gowda International Airport, Bangalore often, as good as any airport in the world, actually even better. Beautiful displays, passenger amenities. Not just Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai or Delhi even airports in places like Tirupati have that lovely aesthetic vibe. Recently been to Manohar Aiport , Mopa though still a work in progress, the interiors were quite well done. Of course there are still some airports like Chennai/Kolkata still stuck in the 90s. One area where India has really progressed in the past decade is the airports, once upon a time they were just glorified bus stands, smelly, messy, chaotic. Now most of them large spacious buildings, with beautiful aesthetics, passenger friendly amenities.

Unless , the paratha was filled with gold or silver, it's hard to understand these prices.!! What is your opinion about 5 Star hotel prices.? 🧐

We were one of the early voices to cheer for Annamalai. We applauded his clarity, courage, and confidence. We still think he's charismstic. But what he lacks is the stamina to stay the course. His restlessness is his biggest enemy. He starts something with great promise. Quits too soon. Hope he doesn't lead his followers up the garden path and abandons them midway.

Some of the privileges and opportunities given to him by Modi Ji, Amit Shah Ji, and Nadda Ji are unprecedented. No politician can even dream of receiving this level of support, trust, and funding from any party unless it’s his dad’s own party. 🔆 Made State Vice President the very next day after joining BJP. 🔆Became State President within just 10 months of entering politics. 🔆Received major funding to build a personal branding and communications “War Room”. 🔆 Granted Z-category security within one year of joining BJP. 🔆 Given a completely new district and state team within 9 months of taking charge. 🔆Modi Ji broke protocol by taking him in his car and helicopter just 15 months after he became State President. 🔆Given direct access to communicate with Central Ministers. 🔆Appointed Karnataka Election Co-Incharge within 3 years of joining politics. 🔆En Mann En Makkal Yatra was fully funded by the party. In addition to the expenses across all constituencies, around ₹5 crore was spent on the concluding event at Palladam. 🔆Given the authority to reject an alliance with AIADMK despite having less than 4 years of active political experience. 🔆Given full control over alliance decisions, seat sharing, and campaign strategy for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The result: Zero seats. 🔆Allowed a three-month sabbatical to study in London. No other State President has been given such a long break. 🔆Led the BJP campaign in the 2026 Assembly elections, addressed over 100 meetings, and was the only leader with a dedicated helicopter throughout the campaign. For comparison, even Udhayanidhi Stalin’s rise in his own family owned party was slower because it had resistance from party seniors, BJP is a party with discipline and accepts any leader appointed by national leadership. 🔹 Youth Wing Secretary – July 2019 🔹 Elected as Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni MLA – May 2021 🔹 Became Minister – December 2022 🔹 Became Deputy Chief Minister – December 2024 Now some people ask: “Why was he not given a national party post?” The answer is simple: 🔹 Since the membership drive started on 2 September 2024, no new national appointments have been made. 🔹 There has also been no change in Cabinet since the government was sworn in on 10 June 2024.

There is a Tamil movie called Kara. The hero is a petty thief who plans to rob a bank. Before carrying out the robbery, he and his friends apply bhasma (sacred ash) on their foreheads. We don't see them wearing it before or after this scene. What would you call this portrayal? Religious stereotyping? Or the use of religious imagery to signal villainy or criminality?

Years ago, a client of mine was sitting next to Annamalai on a flight. Knowing that I had expressed encouragement for Annamalai ever since he transitioned from the IPS to politics, my client happened to mention me to him. To his surprise, Annamalai instantly recognized my name and expressed gratitude for my encouragement from his initial days in politics. He even referenced my tweets and views, offering some very kind words of praise. My client called to share this encounter with me right after. But no, this post is not about me. I’ve heard similar stories from grassroots workers to people from all walks of life. Whether it's receiving a personal phone call, getting recognition for their work, or seeing a highlighted problem get solved-his personal connection with people is remarkably high. I haven’t checked the updated figures today, but as of last night, over a million people have registered for his people's movement. When he traveled on foot across every nook and corner of Tamil Nadu for around 200 days, he connected with tens of thousands of people individually. That deep, personal ground connect is exactly why he has earned public trust in Tamil Nadu.

You may like him or dislike him, but you have to give it to him: Rahul Gandhi is the COOLEST politician in the country at the moment. He can be serious one moment and childlike the next, doing the Bharat Jodo Yatra and bringing people onto the streets in one instance, and exploring the depths of the sea for a genuine cause in another. He can make Modi panic in Parliament one moment and laugh with ordinary citizens the next. We have the most humane politician in him. He also defines the difference between cool and cringe. And by cringe, you know which wannabe leader I’m talking about. 😉 @RahulGandhi
