Thousands of UK retired rail staff have not been paid their pensions today. RPS website is overwhelmed and phones not being answered. What’s going on?

Oh come on…seriously? On Remembrance Sunday? Do we just assume this is a six-days-a-week railway?

The passenger who took this pic last night ended up getting a taxi from London to the New Forest. That’s a £300 bill for @SW_Help to reimburse. Imagine that multiplied by everyone you can see here.

London Waterloo this evening, with @SW_Help advising these passengers to get taxis instead, to Winchester and beyond. At the last count, 7 fallen trees were blocking various routes. #StormHenk Thanks @BrionyLeylandtv for the pic. @LondonWaterloo

This is bad. It really should not happen: the potential consequences are obvious. On the Great Western east of Swindon Swindon a few days ago. And again on the Great Western near Slough overnight last night. @networkrailwest @GWRHelp

The revamped Gatwick Station has been inaugurated today, 23,919 days after the station opened on 27 May 1958. Around this time, the new airport facilities were being finished. It was claimed that Gatwick was the 1st airport in the world to have mainline rail & road connections.

Something that fascinates me is the way respected TOC managers continued to promote Ticket Office closures as necessary and offering better services to passengers, after 750,000 objections had been received and it was clear ministers would disown them. A form of mass hysteria?

@GarethDennis Baggage/buggy provision also needs to address the anxiety of not being able to see your possessions from your seat.

@railnetwork Oh I see - in fairness, it works pretty well in the 700s as they are so spacious inside. On longer distance trains, this approach can also work if it's up at one end of the train.

@GarethDennis Yes. Because clambering over and around other people’s baggage and buggies in the passenger area, because there is no storage, is not an attractive proposition.
