@wildstwawberry Depends on what's being used. Tcgplayer, curled doesn't matter. CK it definitely does. 1/2 value is a huge dropoff though.

Has anyone else had experience with store marking curled foils as LP or lower? I sold a pack fresh foil promo to a store and they’re giving me half of the value for it because they said they can’t sell it as NM. To me this is not what NM means.

@patxisanchez They have a new tier system coming. Limit RCQs to higher level stores. When PPTQs started it was advanced or adv+ only. Meaning you had to have run a 32 player event before and some other things. Now, and hole in the wall can run 3. Waste of time to run them now.

Competitive system in Mtg looked good in theory, but it's losing its appeal There are so many RCQs that they've lost value, and the RC no longer feels exclusive It's a GP every few months, not a special event. Simple fix: limit RCQs to one per store. Make qualifying matters again

@CriticalEDH Agreed. Stop allowing any proxies in a competitive event. Problem solved.

Heard about this. Let's stop supporting these "X proxy/no proxy" events. Accessibility is key to this format. Extremely disappointed in this store's decision.
Max@ThePfef

Super disappointed to see what happened at the Mulligans tournament yesterday. They DQ'ed a player going into top4 because he had 11 proxies vs the 10 limit. Player offered to buy a replacement card on the spot. They booted him anyway and made finals a 3 pod.

The judges really going to issue this poor guy a game loss in r1 of the limited qualifier because he has a double face card in his non-opaque sleeves? Most sleeve brands have this issue and he obviously didn’t realize. They can’t tell him to change it before the next game?

@caro_irl Why is it that mtg players always seem to think that the most popular event at the time is/should be a loss leader? It used to be $10 drafts, free standard with prizes, now it's commander. I've just never understood it.

*** yes you should obviously support your LGS and spend money there when you intend on buying, but commander is generally a loss leader. not to mention for a e.g. broke kid or student it's not reasonable to expect they spend $$$ there, but they still deserve to play!

to me, the primary appeal of commander is that it turns the LGS into a "third space" - a place you can reliably show up to and see at least a few buddies once or twice a week, without the expectation of spending any money

@SaffronOlive Sure, and last year Hasbro also projected 5-7% growth in their Earnings call for 2025*. And we saw how that turned out... Just saying. *Bottom of page 11.

Listening to the Hasbro earnings call, and after Wizards grew 45% this year they are projecting "mid single digit" growth next year. For all the bluster about a 2026 set topping Final Fantasy, this sounds to me like they think the 2026 set slate is significantly weaker than 2025.

@LotharHS Well if you look at it with the logic of it makes sense to draw a round to lock in a top 8 to make sure I get to play more rounds, then it's actually allowing you to play more rounds of your CCG not less.

This applies to every card game: If, at any point of a tournament, it’s mathematically better to NOT play the game rather than playing the game - it means the tournament system is flawed and needs to be looked at. And that’s what is happening with Intentional Draws. I don’t blame the players for taking IDs. I also take them for my own advantage, but it literally makes no sense to travel to a tournament and ELECT NOT to play between 25-33% of the tournament because it makes no sense for the match to happen.

@caro_irl Real answer. Back in the day it was harder for judges to give oracle text responses. Think pre smart phones. And some people don't want to call a judge. It was a stupid edge. Also back then main way to get jpn packs was through t8ing a ptq. So another flex.

confession: i do not understand why so many mtg players, esp comp grinders, buy cards in languages they do not speak/understand (usually japanese sometimes chinese) is it jsut because we're weebs or is it a flex that you don't need to read the card to know what it does

@MissouriMTG I'm sorry they didn't enjoy the journey. I have many many lifelong friends from playing competitive magic, and have enjoyed my 20s. The game is different now, but much of that is that I'm different now.

Talked to some grinders who I grew up with today at a cedh tourney and all of them wished they had spent their 20s doing anything besides spending so much time and money on 60 card. Granted they never made the PT , but rough when the game you identified with is dead.

@feb31st And had you looked at this morning's sales on tcgplayer this card was acting weird. The sales spiked early this morning from $40-$55, and there was a sale of 3 of them at $59.95. Then more flooded the market. But when this was posted, he was accurate. But facts are hard right?

@ashleybits Only if it's not noticed before it's given out. I remember seeing an MH2 first sliver missing the P/T. Was gonna grab it, they noticed it as they were handing it to me, and took it into the back to be destroyed.

We find out the 2026 Magic sets at MagicCon Atlanta in a couple of weeks. We know there's a return to Lorwyn and Strixhaven and one more in-universe set, and then it seems like three Universes Beyond sets. What are you guesses?

@DroodHT Spider-Man will not beat FF. Not because the demand isn't there, but solely because there won't be as much printed. If there were more printed, it probably does better than FF, and if they both had more printed it'd be interesting. This might make prices higher for Spider-man.

The 4 most embarrassing cards I have ever registered for a comp level event. There's like a chance Telemin Dosent count cause it was sideboard, but I'm interested to hear other people's non limited comp cards that I swear was good. #Embarassing #MTG @Crew3Podcast

The Top 8 is set at Arena Championship 9! Players flocked to the powerful Izzet Cauldron deck that didn't lose much with Rotation, and it delivered with a dominating performance. With Pro Tour invites secured, these 8 now square off for the trophy! Twitch.tv/Magic

@wildstwawberry Also see bad exchange rates and 25% tariffs. But the collector packs are getting pretty rough. Thankfully not needed to actually play the game, and lowers the prices on singles as well.

I need Universes Beyond to go away forever. This insane overpricing (as well as boost in MSRP is just absurd. This game being a collector’s item is already driving out so many people I know from the game by force.

@AnthonyThePhil1 @TheTrinketMage It got better. Much better. We no longer have the "unwashed nerd ass", as this game has gone more mainstream. The game is in a much better situation, and more people feel welcome to play one of the best games ever made. There are stores like that still, you should go find one

@TheTrinketMage What happened to Novelty MTG, huh? Call me a hipster but take me back to 2016, when I could walk into a hobby store ripe with the scent of unwashed nerd ass without having to worry about a collaboration with The First Descendent in Magic being shoved down my throat.
