“Since nearly all the rules are made-up anyway, I asked myself a bunch of questions, including: What might this look like if it were maximally fun? What might this look like if it were easy? …what new rules might I create to keep it interesting?”

NEW BLOG POST IS UP: My New Rules for Podcasting – To Keep Things Interesting So, how do you differentiate yourself if every person and their grandma is starting a podcast? If you’re starting from scratch, I think choosing a niche you have a bizarre love for—and therefore endurance for—makes a lot of sense. If, on the other hand, you have a broader, interview-based legacy show, it can be a little tricky. Perhaps the business is great, but you see the writing on the wall and want to be ahead of the curve. As I see it, there are at least a few options:  1) Start a new podcast with a niche focus. Sadly, I suspect I would get bored within weeks or months, but it’s not off the table… 2) Pack up your tent and walk off into the sunset in search of other adventures. 3) Create new and better rules. I landed on #3. In the midst of a weekly ship cycle, it’s hard to escape the collective pull of algo chasing, thumbnail tweaking, and details long enough to zoom out. The waters have been churning at a fever pitch, ever changing and ever faster. When you’re inside the washing machine, it’s very hard to step out and get perspective. So I decided to take a sabbatical of roughly four months. It ended a few weeks ago. During the sabbatical, I stopped recording new episodes, republished some of the greatest hits (e.g., Jamie Foxx, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Margaret Atwood, Jerry Seinfeld, and more), and did a lot of thinking. The full break allowed me and my team enough breathing room to think about the long game. What do we want to do, and furthermore, why are we doing this at all? Since nearly all the rules are made-up anyway, I asked myself a bunch of questions, including: What might this look like if it were maximally fun? What might this look like if it were easy? If I get to do this for another decade, or had to do this for another decade, what new rules might I create to keep it interesting? Of course, these are implicitly “for me.” It’s a highly personal thing. In my experience, keeping it interesting for me generally keeps it interesting for my lovely listeners. At the very least, it’s the only way to ensure I have the enthusiasm required for endurance. See the link below to continue reading:

DoubleZero is not: - a new L1 - a new L2 - a blockchain of any kind - built on a blockchain - a Solana project - a small endeavor DoubleZero is: - base layer infrastructure for blockchain - a faster alternative to the public internet - a new internet optimized for distributed systems, like blockchain - an open, decentralized, permissionless network - the most substantial thing being built in crypto right now

Start by toasting coriander seeds, cumin seeds, and cardamom pods. Add a neutral oil. Add a red onion just before the spices burn. Cook that onion for awhile, then add garlic and ginger. Then add a bunch of greens. I use a bunch of kale and fresh spinach. Add some water if it needs. Cook it down. Add a whole bunch of chopped cilantro and a spicy pepper. Simmer for a minute. Story public mainnet tomorrow. Blend it all up with a can of coconut milk. Back to the pot, add paneer or tofu cubes. Add lime juice, garam masala, nutmeg. Simmer until it’s all warmed up. Eat w basmati rice.

Today marks a massive transformation in web3 marketing. Our portfolio company and strategic partner @spindl_xyz has been acquired by @coinbase. When we first started working with @antoniogm we shared a common vision that the future of web3 growth marketing was going to be onchain. The world was creating millions of data points per day including what assets people owned, which games that they played, the amount of risk they were willing to take, and so much more. Together, we coined a new term in growth marketing: Wallet Aware Inventory (WAI). Our belief was that we could allocate growth budgets more effectively if we were able to target wallets directly. When we began to test the campaigns, the results were incredible and it was by far our most efficient channel of marketing. The problem? No scale. We couldn’t find enough publishing partners with wallet connection features that were used by their consumers. So while this channel was remarkably efficient, we could only deploy small dollars against it. That changes today with this acquisition. Our bet is that advertising will be a huge revenue driver for Coinbase and will unlock a tremendous amount of growth spend in the industry that is currently being wasted on inefficient and difficult to measure channels. @antoniogm was core to building Facebook’s advertising empire, and there couldn’t be a better person at the helm to usher in a new era of growth marketing onchain. We’re excited to be a major partner and excited to help our clients grow through this new channel. More to come soon.
