🚨DUMPLINGS IN FULL PANIC MODE🚨: Rumor has it the family of Spiced Mario Dumplings I just devoured are all mashed together in my belly.
I tried to eat the little ones first for maximum cruelty, but apparently my microwave converted them into lava so I could only bite off the corners while I waited for them to cool down from surface of the sun to just molten.
The dramatized picture below looks nothing like what I actually ate, as the image depicts food whereas what I ate just looked like little greasy meat pillows.

@ArchivistPulp @wastelandJD @NotJonMollison Most of what I remember from the earlier days was sword & planet, and it was something that we largely tried to focus on in the magazine when available.
Our own priorities have typically been Gothic/Weird > Raygun Romance > Sword & Planet > Space Scifi > Sword & Sorcery

@Fiannawolf2 I agree that there were too many Clonans. Part of it is that writers went with what they knew. But I also saw a lot of publishers not accept anything that wasn't a Clonan.

Now, we HAVE published a number of Maciste clones [it was a thing!], but Maciste predates Conan by nearly 2 decades.
Melkart? Anchor Brown? Mongoose & Meerkat? Badulf the German? Cesar the Bravo? Mickey Vance? Who's the Clonan?

@cirsova I got legitimately excited when he announced his "Board James" video series because I'm a board game nerd who liked making fun of traditional American board games. Then the whole series was just skits themed on the games.

@The_Lord_Otter I find AI always wants me to "tighten up" segments that I have specifically written to achieve a certain style and flow.

I won't say that revising your writing with AI necessarily "ruins" it. One thing it goes a long way to doing, however, is sterilizing it.
AI revision is the gross sum of every mainstream editor one could ever think of, and though it is malleable to your story, one still runs the risk of making it sound homogenous.
Keep in mind that AI runs off patterns from vast amounts of training data. That doesn't necessarily make it good or bad, nor is it always correct. Rather, it's just a little closer to being derivative of everything else that's out there.

@RuneK2015 @Fiannawolf2 Mike Hammer could machine gun a room full of commies and have mass appeal. Realistic modern action heroism would end up as a culture war casualty.

@Fiannawolf2 But no one is trying to do "what would a pulp look like today?" "How would we go on bold adventures and face daring villains today?" The closest we get are things like Jack Ryan and Reacher, and their heroes even if awesome have feet made of genre clay.

Most of Pulp Rev ect didnt even make it onto Razor fists radar and that guy loves the Shadow.
It was a drop in the bucket and the wave passed it by.

@jerrythom11 @Fiannawolf2 "The Long Goodbye" was dreary and meandering, but still a solid read. I think it resulted in the worst screen adaptation of the character, though.

Chandler was beat down. Struggled with alcoholism his whole life, later wrote about it, with the same careful prose, in "The Long Goodbye", which is the weakest work, his pathos breaks away
