For every £1 boomers pay in tax, they will receive £1.20 in benefits. The state pension should be scrapped. No ifs, no buts, scrapped.

@kokeshimum @AliceSLondon With maths like that I’m getting coat and leaving. 😂 A few would tbf… most apprentices plumbers, sparkies, brickies, good engineers. Most teachers just out of uni, nurses the list goes on. You don’t have to buy a house at 21. Even in 2000 that wasn’t common more like 25

In 1991 35% of 16-24 year olds had a mortgage and bought their own home. Today it’s 1%. And absolutely nothing is being done to fix this.

@kokeshimum @AliceSLondon So that’s 4 years wages to buy the pad. Not much different to spending £160k now is it…..🤷‍♂️ I really don’t see the problem, if people aren’t willing to go with outfit what they want, they don’t want it enough

@kokeshimum 2 full time workers today surly earn north of £50k-£60k. A £200k mortgage is going to cost you about £1k a month roughly… Why can’t these people afford a house? Oh yes, the BMW, Sky tv, two weeks all inclusive, nights out, designer clothes

Quite a revealing mindset this. When young people can’t afford housing, the answer is never that the market is broken. It’s always that they should have lived smaller, duller, meaner lives …
Sandy Tregent@SandyofSuffolk

You can buy a nice little house like this in Suffolk with a 5% deposit of £6,000. Nationwide, Barclays and others are offering good deals for first time buyers with only a 5% deposit. But then you'd have to forego your gap year in the Far East and Antipodes or your fancy wedding. Poor you. Boo hoo. 🤣

@DominicMcGregor This won’t work either, why are people going to pay into a private pension if it means having their state pension removed…. If the pension is your biggest worry at 32, get out more. You’ll be Islam by 65 anyway. So save your worry and put it to better use

I’m 32 years old and I want to change the state pension. With the triple lock, based on historical growth (4.5%) when I reach my pension age. The state pension will be £30,100 a year. This would account for £512bn a year. The current government budget is 1.2Trn. This would be 3x the current NHS budget. The triple lock is unsustainable. Now the debate, no one is saying that pensioners shouldn’t recieve support. That goes without saying. But there shouldn’t be a non-means tested, non contribution based pension which gives everyone blanket support. Especially when you consider 1 in 4 of over 60 years are asset millionaires. My view is, we need to have a means tested only state pension. Which is reassessed every 3 years. There is no “pot” people pay into, national insurance is just a tax - there is no ring fenced fund for a state pension. It comes directly from taxation ever annum. Without changes like this, young people will suffer while older people - who receive their pension and political protection because they actively vote - will continue to have a glorious quality of life.
Good Morning Britain@GMB

More than 12 million pensioners will see their state pension rise 4.8% today under the triple lock. But the government has been accused of doing too little for working-age households so is it time to scrap the triple lock?

Should have learned a trade instead? I know a bricklayer who last week, secured himself a mortgage for a cracking three bedroom home after a year of overtime. If you repay a student loan and want to live in Canary Wharf, your problems have nothing to do with boomers.
Luke Robert Black 🌳@lukerobertblack

Ah yes - Sandy. A young and aspirational graduate, say, with a job at the Barclays in Canary Wharf, should definitely move a 3-hour commute away from London - to a place where they have no friends, no family and no support network.

This family just got an IKEA kitchen delivered to their new home. It’s 210 packages, and many people say the instructions are almost nonexistent, it’s just diagrams. He’s going to have to unbox every part and arrange it in a way that can be identified so that will help with the frustration, many people who bought this quit out of frustration and tried to return it. Whenever people order kitchen sets like this, should it at least come with better instructions or at least a video, have you ever tried to put something together and the instructions weren’t clear and you ended up messing it up?

I think the best thing to do here is to index state pensions back to when contributions were made, factor in all the stupid financial decisions governments they voted for did, and take a 50 percent haircut if they voted for Brexit. If that pension is not enough then they should have mandatory reverse mortgages applied. That would be fairest on young people trying to make a living whilst supporting old people.

Don't want to get into a bun fight here but why am I reading posts from younger people complaining about people getting a state pension? Errrr, this is how it has always been. When we're young, we work hard for years and then we reach an age where we receive a pension and it's the next generation's turn. What is it with a lot of younger people nowadays (god, I sound like my dad!), they want it all and would be happy if we just kicked the bucket when we retire. I receive my state pension in November this year and I'm bloomin' well not going to feel guilty about it. I would never have complained about this when I was younger and working full time. Never even considered it.
