@Lib_Development Aren't the "incidents" for Houston Metro mostly the vehicles hitting cyclists and pedestrians, that's just categorically different from crime, obviously still bad though

When I travelled to Houston from Chicago 2 years ago and then travelled across the city on mass transit, I noticed 2 things: 1) how much safer I felt on Houston Metro vs the CTA 2) how nonwhite Houston Metro’s ridership was So, uh, respectfully, swing and a miss there
Jarrett Walker@humantransit

Some (not all) of the anxiety about transit crime that I see on Twitter makes sense to me, but some reflects lack of experience with navigating urban space. And some people “feel unsafe” around Black people or people speaking other languages … 3/

Today, I went to google a fact about Wild Kratts, a show about animals I used to like as a child, and I discovered they have since added a YIMBY villain

@paulg Unpopular opinion: going to bed at 8:30 is harder than waking up at 4:30.

obviously the iran arrangement as reported is or ought to be unacceptable to israel. solution for them is straightforward, using a tactic every other side is using to great effect. which is to say israel should simply close the strait of hormuz until trump does what they want

@sailaunderscore The problem is that UChicago is heavily policed and has its own private law enforcement to keep black people away from its campus. The white liberals who attend never see the consequences of their own policies

@Philip_DT ferryboats seem (to me, subjectively) to be one of the most lethal transportation methods on the condition that there is an accident; it seems like the survival rate is lower than a lot of plane crashes lmao

@Lib_Development i wouldn't have expected ferryboats to be this dangerous.

> You're at least 200x more likely to die in a helicopter than a commercial jet Okay, so still around 10x than driving? That seems very reasonable lmao, commercial aviation is so absurdly safe it’s safer than your living room

@levelsio@levelsio

Helicopters are a fundamentally flawed design The moment you even slightly hit or lose the tail rotor the whole thing spins out of control and it's a flying coffin You're at least 200x more likely to die in a helicopter than a commercial jet I don't go in them and I think they should be replaced by multirotor drone type vehicles which are much much safer

@Lib_Development Not exactly fair to normalize by miles when one of these travels at 600 mph
