🚨Crews at risk in the Gulf🚨 Just heard from a crewmember on one of the 3,200 ships stuck in the Persian Gulf. A ship called the local port authority requested permission to dock as they had run out of water. They were denied permission! Multiple ships are in the same condition, with stores, food and fuel running low. Ports are overwhelmed and security is such that they are refusing permission for ships to dock. They now have to compete in spot markets for replacement cargoes. Against each other. And against every other buyer scrambling for LNG. $20 billion per year in lost revenue for Qatar. $26 billion in facilities damaged. The only country with capacity to absorb Qatari volumes at scale is the United States. Geopolitical Update: An Iranian lawmaker, Somayeh Rafiei (from Tehran), told the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA) that parliament is actively pursuing a bill to impose transit fees, tolls, and taxes on vessels using the Strait of Hormuz. The proposal frames it as compensation for Iran providing "security" along the route essentially charging countries for "safe passage" for shipping, energy transit (oil and LNG), and food supplies. Rafiei stated: "In the event that the Strait of Hormuz is used as a secure route for ship traffic, energy transit and food supply, countries will be required to pay tolls and taxes to the Islamic Republic of Iran."
