As we watch hollywood barrel towards a paramount Warner bros merger, this movie should remind us of what may be lost. The relationship between movies and journalism is without question one of the most important parts of a democracy. Having choice in a multi studio system with a news media that is completely independent of those studios cannot be undervalued, nor its importance overstated. This movie would not have been made in a Paramount/Warnerbros/CNN /Trump era. Just never would have happened. That’s what’s at stake. Trump and Hegseth have told us so. “Separation between News and Power”. Should be our new “separation between church and state”.

We're aligning with Moscow because Moscow is right and Europe is wrong. We promised the Soviets we would not move NATO "one inch eastward" if they allowed East and West Germany to re-unify. They allowed it, then we broke our word; moved NATO right up to Russia's Border. When NATO then tried to recruit Ukraine, Russia told everyone "no." Ukraine said "We're sovereign, we will do as we like." Russia replied "If Ukraine joins NATO it will put American missiles on Ukraine soil with a five minute flight time to Moscow. The implied argument is that their obligations within our alliance depend on whether they like the guy we chose as our president. “Sure, we’re allies…if we approve of who you elected.” Nope. When I married in 1981 we both worked & most of our salary went on paying the mortgage as the interest rate was 15% at the time.
Everything we owned was 2nd hand & we never went out for meals as we couldn’t afford to.
We rented our TV
Went to the launderette every weekend as had no washing machine.
Only had new clothes at Xmas & birthdays as presents.
We went without until we could save enough to pay for something.
It’s always been hard whether you are young or old.
So those out there that think we had it easy we didn’t.
Our governments are to blame, not the old.
