Boston's buried under two feet of snow right now, but the Massachusetts Senate just cleared a path for every child in our state to learn to read by passing S.2855. With this law, Massachusetts kids will learn to read using a curriculum grounded in research, from teachers who are trained to deliver it, and those who struggle will get help early instead of years too late. @NCTQ is proud to be part of a coalition of educators, families, advocates, and researchers who understand how we teach kids to read matters and fought to bring instruction in line with the evidence. I’m immensely grateful to Mass Reads Coalition, @mass_potential, @EdTrustMA, @kerry_dons, @Ed4Excellence, TFA Massachusetts, and everyone else who helped make this win possible!

Big news from a bellwether state: Massachusetts Senate votes unanimously to support bill that will introduce curriculum mandates, following unanimous support in the House. @Dale_Chu @lilly_rossi3 @illinoispolicy Please do @BostonSchools next; there are enough empty seats to fill nearly 17 school buildings, costing the district more than $50M per year. Enrollment has consistently gone down for more than 10 years (-18% since 2015).

27 kids. 1,000-seat building. $55K per student. CPS’s least-utilized school is basically a gold-plated ghost town.

Puzzled by MTA and AFT-MA's opposition to MA's Right to Read legislation. THRILLED that just now, the MA House unanimously passed (155-0) H.4672, the early literacy and teacher preparation bill!
