If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears.

@randomworldke Laws are there to stop bad behaviors. If there’re no consequences for bad behavior, I’m sorry to say any society would descend to chaos. You can’t have a corrupt regulating body and expect order.

I honestly don’t think we’re ready for this Eastleigh conversation. Few Observations,. You buy something in the majority of those shops and they want cash. If you don’t have cash, they have their own MPesa agents they tell you to withdraw from. They then make a quick call to the agent to confirm the withdrawal before releasing your goods. That way, they never have to explain their cash flow, but you may one day have to explain yours to the taxman. We’re talking about a multi billion shilling industry with very little transparency, accountability or visibility into how money moves. And as long as they remain the middlemen, pay zero tax, sell “counterfeit goods” the government is comfortable But how dare you use the same business model, open your own wholesale operation and bring your own goods through the port?…..

@crunkwiz @denniskioko It terms of population, Nairobi would be in the top 5 biggest cities in Europe. I also don’t get the argument on economic viability, how much does the government earn from Thika Road? Infrastructure is not meant to earn governments money directly. That’s why we pay taxes.

Railways were never invented for their profitability. A commuter rail is the cheapest high density rail you can get. Metros don't come cheap and that's why they are favoured for inner city Germany does Metro - Suburb train - Regional train - Country train
Brayo@crunkwiz

@denniskioko There's a minimum population density that makes urban rail systems viable.Nairobi is very far from any rail system to not be a net loss.

@rofprayer @lynn_ngugi1 But all other tribes get called out, even though they are equally influential economically and politically. The govt never hesitates to disrupt businesses in other regions when they are operating illegally or engaging in exploitative practices. Why not Eastleigh?

@murithitim @lynn_ngugi1 In Kenya, it usually boils down to strategic voting blocs and massive economic investments. Politicians are terrified of losing influential business allies or stoking regional tensions, so they default to silence.

@lynn_ngugi1 The thing I hate about our society is how comfortable we are with impunity. Wrong things just seem normal to us. Those who do wrong are often considered "street-smart," while those who do the right thing are sometimes punished by the system itself.

@rofprayer @lynn_ngugi1 Why is calling out system exploitation by Somalis always politically inconvenient? I never get it. I have seen same thing in Sweden. I can understand the undertones in US and Sweden, but in Kenya?

@lynn_ngugi1 This is exactly why the tax base never expands. The government goes after the low-hanging fruit (salaried employees and registered SMEs) because auditing cash-based, multi-billion shilling cartels is too difficult or politically inconvenient.

For the first time, I am with President Suluhu on this. Why should she be forced to speak their language? Russia uses its own language, so she would need a translator anyway. Shouldn't she speak Swahili instead, forcing them to need a translator too?

Mind you there's land at Nchiru for that golf course that no one asked for. There's an international airport in Isiolo 30 minutes away and an airstrip at Gaitu. There's the huge house in Milimani that can be made a State Lodge. But we don't have water in Buuri. Idiot.
Murima Maestro🇰🇪@MurimaMaestro

Meru Governor Mutuma M’Ethingia has officially handed over 100 acres of Imenti Forest for total clearance to pave the way for the construction of a State Lodge for Ruto. An additional 100 acres will be cleared to pave way for a Golf Course and an airstrip to help politicians easily fly to Nairobi and back.

What I see is that first they make a prophecy and now they impoverish the village to make sure the prophecy is fulfilled. The motivation behind 60% of Africans living in Cities is questionable. We need to do the reverse prophecy and equally simulate conditions for a good village life. Thank you.

Every statistic predicting that X% of Africans will live in cities by year Y hides another question: What percentage of Africans can access opportunity without leaving home? A man leaving a functioning homestead in Bungoma to live like rubbish in a sheet-metal structure in Kawangware is not automatically evidence of progress. Can modern prosperity be decentralized? Some estimate that 60 to 70% of Nairobi residents live in slums and informal settlements.
