Good to read that mental health apps like @talkspace have done a good job in providing a shift to their consumer’s (not patient’s) behavior health #patientfirstlanguage #mental Also the main image is 🔥because we’ve all done it at some point

This is a really thoughtful article laying out some of the challenges with virtual behavioural health. Still, there's benefits too, and I see a lot of value in hybrid models (some in person, some digital). It's complicated. Plus the main image is 💯 thecut.com/article/mental…

Also can’t forget the disheartening and offensive “Sickler” for those pts coming in w/acute chest ❌ Cirrhotic ❌ CHFer ❌ Diabetic ❌ Vasculopath ❌ Schizophrenic Although often done for efficiency, these terms impart bias on our pt’s care #medtwitter #patientfirstlanguage

Language is important. It is a patient with asthma, not an ‘asthmatic’. A person with cystic fibrosis not a ‘CFer’ I’m working on changing my language. It’s hard because these terms are so pervasive in medicine but I’m trying to be mindful. #medtwitter

Please be aware of appropriate terminology for patients with mental and cognitive illnesses. Our science is vital to moving treatment and understanding of their illnesses forward, but so is how we discuss these patients in our writing. #PreciseLanguage #PatientFirstLanguage
