@07SecondsOrLess @raiderhogsquid @SecondTake20 Im a young official. Calling NAIA BB/FB right now. Will look to only move up in FB. I totally agree with the old boys club take. Even HS associations still operate that way. I’m simply saying it’s only going to get worse. Nobody wants to do this anymore.

@raiderhogsquid @SecondTake20 To work summer league, G league, W and NBA. If they tried to just go the college route then they’d probably still be sent home after the first round because all of these old heads need their games due to seniority. That’s why college officiating is worse than it should be IMO

@raiderhogsquid @SecondTake20 Yes the behavior of coaches, players and fans at basketball games is very bad. Not just towards officials but in general. I just don’t think that’s why most of the officials in the NCAA tournament are over 50. I know lots of really good officials under 50 who got hired by NBA 1/2

@raiderhogsquid @SecondTake20 NCAA has no role in identifying and developing officials. Instead it is left up to former officials who became assignors because of their connections. College assignors are incentivized to give the games to their old buddies that they worked games with

@07SecondsOrLess @SecondTake20 I don’t disagree with your sentiment regarding assigning. I’m saying the officials shortage at the HS levels then onto NAIA/Juco so and so forth, has caused what would normally keep officials at those levels years longer has now had them calling these games with fewer reps.

@raiderhogsquid @SecondTake20 There is not a shortage of officials wanting to work the ncaa tournament. College officiating is not as good as it should be because of the inconsistency caused by different conferences having different assignors. All division 1 officials need to be combined into 1 pool

@SecondTake20 Numerical evidence doesn’t even support that. The reason the officiating becomes (seemingly) worse is because they keep having to pull from lower ranks and there’s a significantly smaller pool of quality officials to pull from than their use to be.

@polyester32 @HaterReport There was still a wide open corner 3 because him and a teammate didn’t communicate on a switch so if he helped on the drive then at least one of St. John’s scoring opportunities would have been taken away

It’s even WORSE from this angle. Darryn Peterson’s situational awareness on Dylan Darling game-winning buzzer beater is absolutely ATROCIOUS I just don’t understand it
Hater Report@HaterReport

Kansas’ defense was a MESS on the last possession that lost the game to St. John’s. Darryn Peterson didn’t help on the game winning drive to the basket and somehow he and a teammate ended up on THE SAME person and left another guy OPEN for a corner 3

That’s A Bad Call
That’s A Bad Call@BadCallOfficial·
This was called a backcourt violation. The ball never goes backcourt. The offensive player establishes himself in the front court with two feet prior to touching the ball. That’s a bad call.

@DrewThatsWho @BadCallOfficial You have ALWAYS been able to save the ball and be the first person to touch. The amount of people who only play at recess astounds me.

@1TommEBoi @DrewThatsWho @BadCallOfficial That’s an nba.com link but if you look at the NCAAM rule book then you will see that it says “a player cannot throw the ball up and be the first to touch it”. This ball was not thrown up. It is unequivocally a dribble by rule and not a pass

@1TommEBoi @DrewThatsWho @BadCallOfficial But you are making up rules that do not exist. Double dribbling and traveling are not just terms. They are defined in the rule book and if a player does nothing that qualifies as double dribbling or traveling per their definitions then it can’t be double dribble or traveling

@07SecondsOrLess @DrewThatsWho @BadCallOfficial Double dribble and traveling are just terms but they call for the same thing you can’t walk / run/ dribble the ball in an illegal way. I arguing that it was still a pass to self not the name of the call.

@1TommEBoi @DrewThatsWho @BadCallOfficial He pushed the ball towards the floor which is a dribble. No where in the rule book does it say you can’t go backwards after dribbling the ball. No such violation as pass to self in the rule book. Just because it looks ugly doesn’t make it a violation.

@cchoka @mitchgoldich It was smart to keep the throw-ins in the backcourt. A front court throw in with a few seconds left and fouls to give has the possibility of a shooting foul so non-shooting fouls are hard at that point.

@mitchgoldich The execution was so bad. St. John’s was always gonna run it down for last shot. Why start the fouling so early? Insanely dumb.

Kansas deserved to lose on a buzzer beater after taking four intentional fouls in the final 13 seconds of a tie game. There, I said it.

@DrewThatsWho @BadCallOfficial You can also save the ball from going out of bounds and be the first one to touch it if your momentum takes you out of bounds and you re-establish back in bounds. Why do you pretend to know the rules when you haven’t read a rule book?

@BadCallOfficial You have never been able to save the ball and be the first person to touch it. Once you cross half court, it essentially becomes a fourth out-of-bounds line and the rules still apply.
