this decline in playercount has nothing to do with the lack of updates but instead an issue with how the gameplay loop has evolved people fell in love with the first 1-2 month struggle of an extraction shooter and haven't been able to experience that since removing ABMM and forcing wipe is the solution
Vara Dark@Vara_Dark

I've seen talk about Arc Raiders playercounts dropping significantly since launch. It's a really fun game, but the devs only have themselves to blame. You NEED to be updating your game with new maps, guns, modes and skins if you want players to return and they haven't done that.🤷‍♀️ DO BETTER and your players will stick around. Otherwise, there's millions of other experiences to choose from.

Mel C has gone full Gladiator mode, leotard, shredded abs and veins popping, for her new solo album Sweat. The 52-year-old Spice Girl hit the gym hard and spent a fortune transforming her body after years of brutal trolling about her weight, her “manly” physique and endless cruel online jibes. She said: “I’ve always been criticised for my body… people were so vicious. Now I’m owning it. This album is about strength, sweat and finally feeling powerful in my own skin.” Mel revealed the extreme training and diet overhaul was a “huge expensive risk” but she’s never felt stronger. While other celebs her age go under the knife, Mel C did it the hard way, pure graft in the gym. She looks absolutely amazing at 52.

George R.R. Martin says he hasn't finished The Winds Of Winter because he's not in the mood: "I do think if I can just get some of these other things off my back, I could finish The Winds of Winter pretty soon. It's been made clear to me that Winds is the priority, but… I don’t know. Sometimes I’m not in the mood for that." Is this a disregard for the fans at this point?

I disagree with the statement that GRRM owes nothing to his fans; in fact, I find it disrespectful, because every author owes something to their fans. If you start a series, it's a promise to the fans who bought and loved the book: there will be a sequel, I will finish this series. If you've made money or gained fame through your fans, of course you owe them something! Yes, things can go wrong and they might not keep their promises, that's part of life... that's not a problem, but they have responsibilities, no one can say they're not responsible.

Can’t believe ARC Raiders is dead. Embark dropped the ball so bad. I guess they made their money and quit caring.

@AmericaFrogPill @GhostEightThots And if we need examples, let's look at how well counter strike is doing (all based on the success of half-life). Even WoW was developed in an era when MMORPGs typically had a few years and made way for the next big hitter.

@AmericaFrogPill @GhostEightThots The irony is that games these days are being developed intentionally to be played long term and the inverse outcome is occuring. Whereas great games historically were developed with the short term in mind (revenue through sales) and end up standing the test of time. Funny that.

I'm so done with ARC Raiders. Used to play the game for hours. Now, maybe an hour at best. The developers don't have a clue and got lucky it's popular because post launch is a joke and shows they don't know wtf they're doing. The matchmaking based on aggression is just ridiculous and completely destroys what should be randomized encounters keeping you guessing. Instead, you know exactly what you're going to get 90% of the time depending upon your previous behavior in prior lobbies and is easy to manipulate.

@25YearsAgoLive I don't personally see any reason to think this fad of internet games will last. Everyone knows the joy of playing video games is having your friends over and gaming together. Not even the internet can get in the way of that.

@Grummz WoW became the giant turd that stopped new interesting turds from getting their time in the bowl & down the pipe. Like all things in life, something will always find a way to disrupt it and on this occasion it's the dev's themselves. I for one am excited about what comes next.

Look at what they did to our game. It's just like what happened to DnD. We went from epic battles to "slice of life" Disney town.

@TheRooster @braves2928 Are you saying this game is for casuals to jump in for a while and be done? I'm pretty sure the devs are trying to make an ongoing microtransaction game. Im which case this guy's point stands.

i think most hyper-casuals arent a fan of the ratting in PVP, leading them to get off the game instead of trying to get better at it. attention spans are as short as ever. and as more people play, people get better and want to PVP more. when it comes to PVE, theres sorta an "end" to the game that leaves nothing left to do except PVP. the recent update is good but didnt add much at all tbh

There’s nothing to hide. The player base is slowly but surely declining. What can Embark realistically do to fix this? Is it the lack of content? The repetitive gameplay loop? Cheaters? What do you think, Raiders?

Arc Raiders update 5.5/10 -minimal content -two new enemies useless after project -making things harder to craft is lazy -weapon changes were minimal Shocked to be honest, still fun to play but shocked

Aggression-based matchmaking in ARC Raiders uses long-term behavior rather than single actions to mix all playstyles into the same lobbies, avoiding strict splits. Additionally, end-of-game surveys are strictly for data collection and do not influence how players are matched.

Arc Raiders Dev Interview | PC Gamer • Aggression-Based Matchmaking (ABMM): is not binary; no separate friendly or aggressive lobbies exist. • ABMM mixes all players; outcomes depend on human motivations, not strict splits. • Single PvP actions like shooting one raider do not lock players into aggressive lobbies. • ABMM evaluates a series of rounds and overall PvP engagement for nuanced tuning. • End-of-game surveys have zero impact on matchmaking; they only gauge round feelings for data analysis. • PvE players feel betrayed by attacks; PvP players are frustrated by lack of easy kills—developers aim to balance both. • Game never requires PvP; it's optional, maintaining tension from player risk. • Live servers surprised devs: tests were hyper-aggressive, but many players cooperate peacefully. • Emergent gameplay: "Sheriffs of Stella Montis" punish killers in night raids via street justice. • The Matriarch and Queen boss fights were not intended for the full server to go up against and get equally rewarded. It is meant to be a couple of dedicated squads, maybe, working together while also dealing with other players. • The Future: Tie more game loops (beyond currency) to Expeditions; we'll be able to talk about that fairly soon. • Don't want people to be able to max out the entire skill tree. That's not the way it's designed. • Very likely going to revamp parts of the skill tree. • Allowing some blueprint carryover after expeditions is being considered but balances the progression power curve. • Events such as Locked Gate and Hidden Bunker will receive adjustments to enhance player engagement. • Arc Intelligence: Machine learning is literally only for teaching them to walk and navigate the environment. ML doesn't do any of their behaviours or their attacks. Their AI designers and our AI engineers control them. Article: pcgamer.com/games/third-pe… YT: youtube.com/watch?v=L_A5qG…

Jermaine Pennant has RESPONDED to John Terry: "I ain't got JT's cabinet, so I can't find my Community Shield medals or my FA Cup runners' up medals either. This [Champions League runner's up medal] is my retaliation! "Listen, let's get something straight here. JT, one of England's greatest centre-backs without shadow of a doubt... "...but my argument is is that it's not about what you've won in your career. We're not talking about who's won what in what career. Yes, he's won more trophies. I am a senior vice president at a $68.7 billion gaming company. Activision-Blizzard. We have a 30-year-old franchise. Warcraft. Millions of players. A subscription model that prints $15 a month per user. A cash shop on top of the subscription. Paid expansions on top of the cash shop. Our former creative director just told the press he wishes we hadn't called it "Warcraft." He said the name sounds intimidating. He helped create the name. We ran focus groups. The focus groups said the brand needed to be "more approachable." We asked the focus groups if they played the game. They did not. We took their advice anyway. Our VP told an interviewer we want players to experience "weddings, raids, and new adventures." She listed weddings first. Before raids. In a game called Warcraft. Nobody in the room flinched. She also said "No one thinks the same about Warhammer." She compared our franchise unfavorably to a competitor. On the record. As a defense of the franchise. The forums are on fire. Twenty-year veterans are writing goodbye posts. One thread is titled "Think I'm done with WoW." Another calls our pre-patch a "player purge." We called our GDKP raiders "delusional." We timed a cash shop bundle to launch during the Trading Post anniversary -- the one event where players earn free cosmetics. We offered 200 discounted items but kept the monthly currency cap at 1,000. The math doesn't work unless you open your wallet. The community noticed. We described their concerns as "feedback we're monitoring." We are always monitoring. We have never once changed course because of monitoring. The players say we're "Disneyfying" the game. Turning gritty into cute. War into weddings. Orcs into mascots. They're not wrong. The data says approachable properties have wider TAM. Total addressable market. That's the metric now. Not "subscribers who love the game." Not "community that built this franchise." TAM. TAM doesn't post on forums. TAM doesn't write goodbye letters. TAM doesn't have 20 years of muscle memory and lore knowledge and raid nights that turned into real friendships. TAM is a number in a slide deck that makes a board feel comfortable. We added player housing. Players have asked for it since 2004. We launched it in 2026. Twenty-two years. We described this as "listening to our community." We are very good at listening. Eventually. When the feature aligns with a monetization roadmap. Here is what I know and cannot say in a meeting: The name was never the problem. The name built this. The name survived server crashes and subscription drops and an activision merger and a harassment scandal and a $68.7 billion acquisition. The name is "Warcraft" and for 30 years nobody was confused about what it meant. The problem is not that new players find the name intimidating. The problem is that old players are starting to find us unrecognizable. And we don't have a focus group for that.
