With the masters of suspicion set up as villains, it’s hard not to view Bruce as problematically conservative, even authoritarian. But I guess that tension is Batman’s whole thing.

What are examples in any form of media where a "brilliant song/painting/play/etc" within the story is actually as good as the characters act like it is? Note: NOT the same as just "I liked it". It needs to actually fully match its fictional reputation

@Luke_Posting @halonease @adamkotsko Like, in order to take in new thoughts, you kind of have to be able to stop and say to yourself, “I’m going to put my own thoughts on this shelf in my brain for a moment. I’m going to read this book, and the thoughts will be here when I get back and it will be okay.”

@Luke_Posting @halonease @adamkotsko I used to deal with that a lot, too. I think there is something inherent in reading someone else’s thoughts that requires a certain level of mindfulness. It’s hard to approach a book with a clean, open mind if you’re on the verge of a panic attack, which needs self-compassion.

@DrSprankle @GailSimone two big ones that stick with me: The Simpsons and D&D. I think concern with the Simpsons was just that Bart was rude to his parents and set a “bad example” but with D&D i think there was some genuine concern of actual demonic activity.

If you grew up in an evangelical or otherwise conservative Christian home, what were some pop culture things that were forbidden out of fear it would corrupt (or possess) you? I need a few examples for one sentence in my book 🙏🏻

@Alex_Autistic @christapeterso I hate to even share this with the world but I did hear a chiropractor once pitch to a pregnant woman that even newborns “need” (she said NEED) many adjustments because of how they are curled up in the womb. And I promise that chiro really truly believed that, too.

I felt that How To Change Your Mind took very seriously relative brain mechanics & who might or might not benefit from the drugs, set & setting, etc., fraught history of the 60’s and the more serious indigenous roots of the drugs

@atubini @RottenInDenmark Actual users of these drugs are more likely to be introduced to them at a rave or festival than a therapist office. It is irresponsible to promote these drugs w/o also providing practical guidance to using them safely in the environments in which they exist.
