Government pensions are a scam. Younger workers are paying more and more to fund a system that is mathematically impossible to sustain. Would you scrap the triple lock?

And who can buy a them lol?, it's a catch 22 at the moment, people can't afford to buy and people won't sell because they see the dropping of prices as a loss. They might also want to pass it down to their children? Theirs so much other shit to focus on than attacking your own elderly.

The UK is going to collapse on its current trajectory. It's not up for debate, it's going to implode. Every decision politicians make is as if the country is rich and we aren't, we are in huge debt. The pensions conversation is one of those, it's unfortunate that it becomes a slagging match between the young and the old. No one wants their gran to freeze and die, obviously, the young do also want to be able to have children and buy a house. It's a cold hard fact that everyone has been miss sold the pension scheme in the UK. What money you paid in, is not what you are taking out. Your pension is currently being funded by the young and their tax. The elderly, need the young, but the young need the opportunities of the old to continue the Ponzi scheme of the pension and indeed the NHS. Neither are sustainable. I don't know what the solution is that would keep everyone happy, the situation is such that if you're young I would advise opening up a private pension and saving now. You won't have a state pension. That's the attitude you need to have. Disconnect yourself from the state as much as possible, in every aspect.

Don't want to get into a bun fight here but why am I reading posts from younger people complaining about people getting a state pension? Errrr, this is how it has always been. When we're young, we work hard for years and then we reach an age where we receive a pension and it's the next generation's turn. What is it with a lot of younger people nowadays (god, I sound like my dad!), they want it all and would be happy if we just kicked the bucket when we retire. I receive my state pension in November this year and I'm bloomin' well not going to feel guilty about it. I would never have complained about this when I was younger and working full time. Never even considered it.

PRESIDENT TRUMP JUST NOW: "With a little more time, we can easily open the Hormuz Strait, take the oil, and make a fortune. It would be a ‘gusher’ for the world." It's going to be an eventful weekend.

🚨 STRAIT OF HORMUZ UNDER FIRE — U.S. STRIKES IRGC POSITIONS Reports indicate a major U.S. Navy operation is underway to break Iranian control over the Strait of Hormuz — one of the most critical oil choke points on Earth. Dozens of missiles are said to have been launched at IRGC positions along the Strait. If confirmed, this is a direct move to secure global energy routes — and a major escalation in the conflict. The stakes could not be higher: • ~20% of the world’s oil flows through this corridor • Any disruption sends shockwaves through global markets • Military confrontation here risks rapid, uncontrollable escalation This is no longer regional. This is global pressure building in real time.

The problem is no growth and a load of gratuitous stupid spending. Most pensioners are not 'rich' it's just house price inflation, funnily enough caused by mass immigration and money printing. We also have one of the worst pensions in Europe. We can cut other stuff before we need to look at the pension FFS. It's a vital part of the social contract.

@RobertJenrick If they means test State Pension, and include private pension income, paid for by people working hard and contributing, then people will simply STOP paying into private pensions! Then the private pension and investments industry collapses! Don't these people think ahead at all?🤦

The triple lock is an unfunded, inflation-linked perpetual bond with no cap and no maturity date. Every major party just committed to keeping it. None of them can explain how a shrinking tax base, 9 million inactive working-age adults, and a gilt market already at breaking point absorbs a ratchet that compounds at 4%+ and never gives back. Lucky for you, GBTT have modelled it over 10, 20, and 30 year horizons. The numbers are absolutely brutal: gbtt.info/triple-lock.ht… @trevgoes4th @maxtempers @garyb_pro @echetus @UnderSneege @ColeFusionHQ @db_fink @HayekAndChips @PeterMcCormack @LukeJohnsonRCP @DamianPudner @jbhearn @John_Stepek @MarketBlondes @RossKempsell @based_data_uk @rorysutherland @worstall

For my Socialist subscribers wondering how Starmer is to blame for the painful fall in house prices here’s the answers; 1) His increase in stamp duty over his two Budgets. 2) Mansion tax on homes over £2million. 3) interest rates dramatically higher than they should be ( even Greece is 1% cheaper) because global traders think we’re more likely to go bust under Starmer than the rest of Europe.
Kelvin MacKenzie@kelvmackenzie

Estate agents tell me home buyers are as rare as a heterosexuals at the BBC due to the Iran war. Mortgage rates over the last month have risen from 4.83% to 5. 89% pushing prices even further down. Most folk who bought their house in the last six years are facing negative equity. Thank you Starmer.

@tttheripe @WeTheBrandon I'm not worried about that. The petrodollar isn’t ending tomorrow. Most global oil is still priced and settled in dollars due to liquidity and trust. China pushing yuan is real, but gradual at best.

When POTUS tells the Europeans, Indians, etc., to open the Strait of Hormuz on their own, it's very simple what these nations will do: they will cut deals with Tehran, pay tolls to pass through the Strait, and they will pay those tolls in Chinese Yuan. End of Petrodollar.

You've degraded fuck all, you fucking buffoon. All you've managed to do is install a more hardline regime unite the Iranians and the entire planet against you, and fuck everybody's finances. There's no coming back for you guys and you're shortly going to learn about consequences.

@WeTheBrandon This is about stopping subsidizing freeloading allies while we finish degrading Iran’s terror machine. If Europe/India/China want cheaper oil long-term, they can help finish the job or escort their own ships. Of course, there's a chance Iran might lose everything.
