@BC_Programming

Programmer, Pretend web developer, blogger, and IT tech rolled into one sub-par and self-deprecating package! Also somehow an MS MVP for 2012.

@vlucas @static_tensions @Grady_Booch "Tesla was re-thinking cars from scratch." I didn't know electrifying a Lotus Chassis was "re-thinking cars from scratch". Pretty incredible also that they somehow ended up with cars that blend in pretty well with the design of most vehicles already on the road.

@static_tensions @Grady_Booch What I said about SpaceX and Tesla are objectively true. I don't understand all the ad-hominem attacks in response. 🤷‍♂️

@PeterSweden7 Draft emergency proposals regarding EVs during an energy crisis being only for necessary journeys (Work, shopping, doctor, religious events, court appointments). Hardly a "ban"; Many countries have similar legislation for gas shortages and ICE vehicles.

@KimDotcom Intentional lighting blackouts, even with infrastructure otherwise, is a standard tactic used to make air raids less accurate. This is why as territory is won back, those areas go dark at night. Russian occupiers aren't concerned because Ukraine is not going to bomb themselves.

@steeltrack52 @Scheerschmidt1 @MattWallace888 SpaceX and Tesla would have both failed without government intervention; a 1.6 Billion dollar government contract in the first case and a 300 million dollar Department of Energy Loan in the latter.

Elon Musk has been able to successfully run Twitter for days now with only 50 employees. What the heck were those other 7,950 people even doing? 🤣

@oesorg @MosquitoCapital Paypal was created by Confinity over a year before that company Merged with Elon's company, X dot com. He was not involved in it's "invention".

@MosquitoCapital If only the new CEO invented PayPal or had a software team that does self driving or provides global satellite internet services or lands rockets. Then maybe he'd be competent enough to run a softwate group coding a tweeting service

I've seen a lot of people asking "why does everyone think Twitter is doomed?" As an SRE and sysadmin with 10+ years of industry experience, I wanted to write up a few scenarios that are real threats to the integrity of the bird site over the coming weeks.

@djvlad As an adult, drinking water is a form of depression. If you don't believe me, ask yourself this: Think about the 100 greatest moments of your life. Do any of those moments include drinking water? Probably not. And this comes from a lifetime drinker of water.

@SpawnWaveMedia Hall-effect joysticks drift because of changes in the magnetic field of the magnets used. They last longer but they aren't impervious, and the "drift" can become very erratic depending on how the magnetic materials change.

@lefticus @danbjson Both the GNU C Compiler and the CLang C Compiler are self-hosting compilers. I don't see how that is possible if they are written in C. Perusing the current source code for both and I can't find any C++ elements. C code that compiles in a C++ compiler is still C.

@danbjson Many embedded developers are moving to C++. But again I'll repeat: your C compiler is written in C++. If you use an IDE it's either written in C++, or relies on software written in C++. Once GCC moved to C++, I think C++ became unavoidable in your ecosystem.

Theory: every aspect of modern technology hinges on C++ Evidence: JavaScript engines, browsers, Windows, KDE, JVM all written in C++. Python is C, but all major libraries are written in C++. GTK on Linux? Your C compiler is written in C++ Do you have counter examples?

@a_arknu @robotdad The "new context menu API" is IExplorerCommand, it was not a "context menu API" In Windows 7; It was designed to allow for a shared command structure between toolbars/ribbon commands and menu items for Shell extensions. 'The documentation' also constantly references IContextMenu.

@robotdad Bug app developers to use the context menu APIs that have been available since Windows 7 (so 13 years now), instead of the legacy ones. Apps that do that will show up in the normal context menu. At least on Insider builds you can also Shift+right click to access the legacy menu.

C#'s "Top level statements" feature was going to be called "Punch Card format", but Microsoft was worried that 20-year-old developers would think it was a new trading card game.
