In the 1980's, Canadian broadcaster Global found a loophole in Canadian broadcasting legislation. Instead of broadcasting test patterns on screen and losing out on overnight revenue, they could send a cameraman into the city to walk around and film the streets of Toronto. Global producers decided to create their own original music to accompany the show instead of losing out on licensing fees. Because the show was entirely "Canadian Content", this allowed Global to leave key primetime slots open to broadcast American content. The show was called Night Walk. Although Night Walk was created to exploit a loophole, the footage that was left behind now looks like a time capsule.

@BeegJj AI (didn't check accuracy) stated they issued 12,100,000 share options to employees in 2024 - buy backs would be more useful if it was side by side with number of shares issued through employee options and other means. Isn't that the important normalizing factor here of no?

@Saw_Walker @acoyne lol @acoyne had been remarkably consistent and clear on his rational on why he doesn't support high speed rail You don't need to agree with him but any one "confused" hasn't actually read what he wrote, or isn't being "genuine" & trolling

@acoyne Big fan of your work @acoyne watch all of your analysis and interviews. But genuinely confused why you’re against a high speed rail. Yes it’s expensive, but it won’t get any cheaper and less people driving the better. People have wanted them for decades, so there’s clearly demand

I think their advice would be: Cram 120 million people into an area slightly smaller than Newfoundland. Put 93 per cent of them in cities. Even in the Quebec-Windsor corridor, population density is a fraction of Japan's; the economics of high-speed rail are accordingly a little different.
Mark Marissen@marissenmark

I just came back from a trip to Japan. The Japanese could figure out how to provide their citizens high speed rail. There’s no reason why we can’t. Don’t let Pierre Poilievre deny Canadians high speed rail. If we need help and advice from the Japanese, let’s get it.

@acoyne @jkenney I love how you wear your heart on your sleeve - youre a straight shooter The policies of the Lewis NDP may be bad policies; they may be losing policies; but they are authentically their policies, things they actually believe in. You’d be surprised how much that matters to people

@NuggetCapital lol what? Stop the hate farming. Trudeau was not corrupt. He was provably the most incompetent PM in living memory, but that's not the same as corrupt. To put him in the same conversation as Trump is disgusting and minimizes the corruption that is the Trump admin.

@DiscussingFilm No whedon no watch. Joss Whedon helmed some of my favorite all time shows and every spinoff or variation without him has failed miserably. As much as I love Nathan and Alan, I have no faith a project that Whedon led would come out nearly as polished in another’s hands.

@BeCurious_5 @MaoistStdEn @grok I'm not even from NZ; I'm English. It's just that not all internment camps were the same. Considering that even many Western prisoners nowadays don't receive adequate food, care, or education, what Enda Pearce did was not immoral; it was seen as necessary during the World Wars.

@MaoistStdEn I think you could be confusing NZ internment prisons with American ones. As far as I know, nothing was wrong with NZ camps apart from what typically happens with civilian internment (jstor.org/stable/40346688). Civilian internment was very normal in WW2 and happened in most places.
