@BetterDeadnRed @freganmitts I disagree that it isn't earth shattering. Coding is problem solving. If you can master turning ideas into code you can do the same physically and problem solve in the real world. It leads itself to many other areas, electrics, plumbing, medicine and so on.

The point is about what “intelligent” means. People who reject the intelligence of LLMs generally understand “intelligence” to be a particular way of understanding and going about in the world, *essentially grounded* in the kind of life-form something is. Those who accept (1/4)

I genuinely don't know what to make of people who claim that current LLMs aren't "intelligent" unless the point is a very trite one about consciousness or the absence of wetware. It's this weird reflexive incuriosity about one of humanity's strangest and most fraught inventions.

@bitcoinbender81 @freganmitts It’s actually extremely unsurprising that the standout skill of LLMs is programming. A complex piece of written code that can solve complex problems in written code is a marvelous feat, but it is not as earth-shattering for people who don’t write code as those who do think it is

@freganmitts It is not important. As a dev I can describe a problem to an LLM and it can code the solution, and this includes complex problems requiring multiple steps and logical paths. We can debate whether that is "intelligence" or not but if it can do my job why does the definition matter
