@histories_arch He was engaged to an heiress worth $100,000,000 in 1918 dollars! His father push for US involvement in a stupid war. Sad, but he got what he bargained for.

Quentin Roosevelt could have stayed home. As the youngest son of former U.S. president Theodore Roosevelt, he had every reason to avoid the dangers of World War I. Instead, he volunteered as a pilot and joined the 95th Aero Squadron in France, living out his father’s belief that privilege meant responsibility, not exemption. On July 14, 1918, during the Second Battle of the Marne, German ace Carl‑August von Schoenebeck shot down Quentin’s Nieuport 28 fighter near Chamery, Marne, France. The 20-year-old pilot was killed instantly. German forces photographed the wreckage for propaganda postcards, but many soldiers reportedly expressed respect that a president’s son had fought and died like any other soldier. German troops buried Quentin with full military honors, even making a cross from the wire of his downed aircraft. The loss devastated Theodore Roosevelt, who called it “the greatest blow that could have befallen me.” The former president never fully recovered and died just six months later in 1919. Quentin’s death became a powerful symbol of shared sacrifice in wartime America. His grave remained in France until 1955, when his remains were moved to the Normandy American Cemetery to rest beside his brother Theodore Roosevelt Jr., who died during World War II. Two brothers, two wars—one family deeply tied to the idea of service. #archaeohistories

No one can be watching this Davos speech and reach any conclusion but that the President of the United States is mentally disturbed and that something is deeply wrong with him. This is both embarrassing and extremely dangerous.

@histories_arch If the renderings of the ship are to true scale that is beyond amazing. Building and engineering that vessel in the late 1800's is mind blowing. That ship is fricking huge. I love it.

The SS *Great Eastern, launched in 1858, was the brainchild of Isambard Kingdom Brunel, one of the most celebrated engineers of the Victorian era. Measuring 692 feet long and weighing nearly 19,000 tons, she was by far the largest ship ever built at the time—so vast that many doubted whether she could even float, let alone sail. What made the *Great Eastern* truly revolutionary was her hybrid propulsion system: six masts with sails, enormous paddle wheels, and a massive screw propeller powered by steam engines. Designed to carry 4,000 passengers and enough coal to travel from England to Australia without refueling, she was more than just a ship—she was an audacious statement of human ambition and industrial might. Despite her cutting-edge design, the *Great Eastern* faced numerous setbacks. Her launch was plagued by technical issues and delays, and early voyages were marred by financial troubles and mechanical failures. The ship never became the commercial passenger success Brunel had envisioned, but her robust construction would later prove invaluable. In the 1860s, she was repurposed for laying transatlantic telegraph cables—her massive size and stability making her uniquely suited for the task. In this new role, she helped connect continents and revolutionize global communication, fulfilling a very different but equally monumental purpose. The *Great Eastern*’s grandeur and complexity inspired fascination beyond the world of engineering. Jules Verne famously featured the ship in his 1871 novella *A Floating City*, with evocative illustrations by Jules Férat that captured its scale and mystique. Though the ship was eventually dismantled in 1889, her legacy endured—marking a turning point in maritime innovation. The *Great Eastern* remains a towering symbol of Victorian ingenuity, a vessel that dared to defy the limitations of its era and, in many ways, paved the way for modern ocean liners and global connectivity. #archaeohistories

@histories_arch She’s big but I feel like the artist of this render didn’t understand the scale. I’m pretty sure that tri-mast ship’s deck would be about near the bottom of the anchor.

No officers lost their lives at the Capitol that day. Just one unarmed woman shot by an overzealous cop. And I think it's great they were all pardoned. No one was punished for an entire summer of rioting, which actually did result in the death of many police, but you just called it a "mostly peaceful protest". If you're still angry about it, blame the person responsible for it- Nancy Pelosi, who refused to authorize the National Guard that was offered by Trump himself. Your whole narrative is a lie.

Tragic news continues to arrive in these days from the Middle East, especially from Gaza. I express my profound sadness regarding last Thursday’s attack by the Israeli army on the Catholic Parish of the Holy Family in Gaza City, which as you know killed three Christians and gravely wounded others. I pray for the victims, Saad Issa Kostandi Salameh, Foumia Issa Latif Ayyad, Najwa Ibrahim Latif Abu Daoud, and I am particularly close to their families and to all the parishioners.
