Imagine how funny it'd be if Trump really didn't know this. "Get Iran on the phone! We're gonna negotiate about them closing the Strait of Hormuz—with their Navy." "Sir. You blew up their Navy. They can't close the Strait with a Navy they don't have." "Right. Right. Well, still. We're negotiating about their—ballistic missile program!" "Sir, you blew those up." "Oh. Well... their drones!" "Blew those up too, sir." "Their capacity to make more!" "You blew up the factories, sir." "Huh. Their funding of terror proxies!" "You blew up their banks, sir." "Oh. Wow. I really did a number on them, huh? Let's just kill their leadership." "Uh. Sir?" "What now?" "The leadership is blown up, too." "Like—all of it?" "I think you blew up leadership who wasn't even born yet, sir." "Then who am I talking to in the IRGC?!" "Marco Rubio, sir."
Derek. 🇺🇸@SuitablePolitic

We are negotiating with leadership that Iran does not have about a Strait that Iran did not close And people really think Trump doesn't have something up his sleeve 😭

@EruditeDM The Dark Elf Trilogy is great and "Pirate King" in particular is great. The rest I would only suggest if you like Salvatore's prose.

@TCraneB @VK_HM No. Everything remotely interesting about Elric someone else did better. And in the case of Poul Anderson, also did first.

@VK_HM I'm sometimes hesitant to read very foundational books like this because it feels overly trope-y. I know it isn't fair because it's the one thay established those tropes but alas. Are the Elric books worth the read?

I'm going to disagree with this take. I think the one thing the older image on the right has is colour, but the one on the left's colour matches the bleak atmosphere it's clearly going for, from the corpses at his feet to the torn painting in the back. The one on the right is very good, but it honestly feels more like a still image, and the background kinda looks like something from a stage play, not an actual place in the world. It looks very 2D and kinda fake. I think honestly part of the argument seems to be boiling down to 'the modern one doesn't have a pair of big tits in it'. If you want to go for a bleak horror atmosphere, the one on the left is better imo, but the one on the right feels more like an 80's movie, and honestly I can't tell if you're meant to feel sad or scared or inspired. I don't know if the woman is dead or just unconscious, and I don't really know what the vampire's intention is with her without knowing the context of the image. Is he kidnapping her? If so, why is he walking away from his 'castle' in the back? Is he freeing her? Has he had a touch of human emotion and remorse? Modern art definitely needs to be criticized, but this is like a lot of posts I see comparing some modern female knight to red sonja or some bikini-clad woman from the 70's. I think there are better criticisms

WOTC's new 5.5E Ravenloft is technically sound but...boring. Notice how everything just blends together; the furniture, the bodies, the ghost...leaving just a guy holding a glass. And then there's Clyde Caldwell's masterpiece where everything is equally evocative; the castle, the moon, the mist, even while your eye is instantly drawn to the ravishing girl and Strahd's anguish over losing her. #FantasyArt

I've always found the term "Socratic method" or "Socratic discussion" kind of ironic Like, Socrates didn't really hold some free and open debate He asked a few leading questions, demonstrated his interlocutor was wrong, and then lectured for 50 pages on his right opinion

@emeriticus @SwipeWright Completely braindead take. A woman in a car is far from "unarmed," not that "unarmed" even means "not dangerous."

@SwipeWright Are you going to cry? Do you need a safe space? Do you need trigger warnings? Personally I thought it was worse when Jonathan Ross shot an unarmed woman three times and called her a “Fucking bitch”

Statements like this, which frame border patrol agents as Nazis and encourage ordinary civilians to interfere with law enforcement, are incredibly irresponsible and risk getting people killed.

@CDHenry_PA Notably, that case cites the Extradition Clause as an example that compels the states to act as federal enforcement. Clearly, there are examples where it doesn't apply, such as when the Constitution requires, which I'm inclined to say it does for immigration, given the above.

@CDHenry_PA Article 1, Section 9 gives Congress the authority to block immigration, and Section 8 empowers Congress to pass laws necessary for the execution of such. Should Congress pass a law, the states would be required to enforce immigration restrictions as they are to prohibit slavery.

@The_Kyle_Mann This is a shockingly bad take. All the great stories are about larger-than-life figures who destiny thrusts into the spotlight.
