Most gamedevs still haven't learned this important lesson: Vincent went all-in on this second game and failed, but rather than giving up, pivoted into something small and fun and it took off. My takeaway is: validate your ideas as quickly as possible. Don't sink years and thousands of dollars into a moonshot idea that isn't validated. You can make something fun and simple in a few days. What an awesome case-study. Go Vincent!

@alexutopia The peak of music used to be a seven figure studio budget heavily editing and remixing everything including auto tuning lyrics to make the song artificially sound better - sounds very similar to the same stuff happening now. No one cares auto tune is less singing talent if cool.

The best artists will use AI the same way great musicians used distortion, samplers, and synths: as force multipliers. The weakest artists will call it cheating because that sounds nobler than admitting they got outrun. That split is already happening.

All this AI talk has me needing to say something. Using generative AI to write a book does NOT make you an author, and it never will.

@MichaelFKane What % of AI is okay? Most antis answer 0% and that is untenable given AI is directly and indirectly embedded into everything and that trend is growing exponentially. If you accept AI minerals and AI oil and AI cars and AI industrialization then artist tools are ok too.

1. Everyone should disclose if AI created the product they are selling. 2. Not everyone will tell the truth. 3. AI detectors should never be used because they will never be reliable. 4. Therefore there is no way of knowing with certainty who is lying. The societal problem we are approaching with AI falls under the "If everyone would just" on point 2. Everyone will not "just" (obviously) and so you can see the friction we are heading into.

@TylerGlaiel Art, like science often, benefits from miraculous mistakes that drive discovery and creativity. I have added MANY new ideas and character concepts from AI and many them were accidental and I took the idea and expanded it. The AI didn't have the idea - I did.

Idk maybe this is crazy talk but I feel like concept art is like, one of the worst possible places you could use AI. Usually that's where you want to be the *most* creative.

@TheOtherFrost You could grow your own food - chances are you do not even though can. Making a full video game with AI that is good is a task orders of magnitude more difficult than gardening so less people will do it and almost no one grows 100% of their own food.

Not to be confrontational, but what is the business plan behind selling genAI drawings, games, movies, music when your customers could ALSO use genAI to make their own?

I just find it weird I get hate mail for AI work that takes much more effort than any of my 3D work.
