In 1931, 14-year-old Forrest J. Ackerman wrote a letter to Edgar Rice Burroughs, author of Tarzan and the John Carter of Mars series, informing him of an argument he had with his teacher regarding Edgar's books. Burroughs replied...
Burroughs’ reply defended popular fiction in direct terms. He argued that reading anything engaging is better than not reading at all, and that entertainment can serve as a gateway to lifelong reading habits. He also criticized rigid school reading lists, noting that forcing material on students often turns reading into obligation rather than curiosity.
Ackerman would go on to become one of the most influential figures in science fiction fandom, editor of Famous Monsters of Filmland, literary agent to authors like Ray Bradbury, and a key organizer of early sci-fi conventions.
Burroughs, best known for creating Tarzan (1912) and the Barsoom/John Carter series, was one of the highest-paid writers of his era, with his works translated into dozens of languages and adapted into film, radio, and comics.
Ackerman preserved this letter for decades, and it became a widely cited example in debates about “high” vs. “popular” literature, often used to argue that genre fiction plays a critical role in building readers.

@ThoughtCrimes80 I'm convinced "she" does not go on any dates, and so this video is for those theoretical "men" asking "her" out.
English

Jews are the only people on the planet whom it's okay to hate because of crimes allegedly committed by their ancestors centuries or even thousands of years ago.
No one hates Mexicans because of human sacrifice in the Aztec Empire. No one curses Italians for killing Spartacus in 71 BC. No one attacks Turks for slavery during the Ottoman Empire or the Greek and Armenian genocides. White supremacists don't hate Black people for the actions of their ancestors in Africa. No one begrudges modern Germans or Japanese the atrocities of WWII, despite some of its participants still being alive.
Yet somehow, it's perfectly acceptable to attack Jews for medieval libels of coin-clipping and usury, 100-year-old involvement in the Bolshevik movement (for which other nations are excused despite making 95% of it) or even for 2000-year-old accusations, such as killing Christ (who was killed by Romans) or using human blood in rituals (despite the prohibition on consuming blood being one the first in the Bible.)
No other prejudice works like this.
Ask yourself why.
English

@ChapterLurid @VerminusM @MaxNordau I mean, we're seeing Israelis call objective verifiable reality "blood libel" and you seriously think we won't look at previous historic "blood libels" and question them, given the new information?

@ghgerryhambly @TheDemCoalition If she wouldn't date you before, she definitely won't now.

Trans-identified female lawyer berates judge, pulls trans card, gets found in contempt, resists arrest, screams “I can’t breathe,” and yells for people to call 911 as she’s fighting police. Absolutely glorious performance. Women should not take testosterone.

Are we not encouraged to bring our whole self to the workplace?
What exactly is wrong or un-American about this? Has the Pentagon declared this to be the only allowed worship service? Are others required to attend? It does not establish a religion. Indeed, there are chapels and worship services on most if not all military installations. The only difference is you do not often have a senior leader advertise his participation.
Separation of church and state has always meant that the state cannot interfere with the Church, not that religious principles cannot be expressed by or influence government officials.
TL;DR: You are wrong and un-American.
English

Does everyone realize how wrong and unAmerican this is to come from a government account??

@desert_starr_57 @Kneon I was surprised with our first child when we got the birth certificate that isn't a real birth certificate but rather only a certificate of achievement.

Wait...what?
I lost my birth certificate, and then I followed the process and got another one issued to me, as anyone with a USA birth certificate can do.
@Kneon only had a commemorative one (not official), and he just went to the office and got another one.
