#Antibodies - part of a #motherslove that starts before birth. Nice story. Dr. Hilleman's 1st success was a #flavivirus #vaccine (for #JEV). #Zika is sadly absent from the list of maternal vaccines. We can change this for millions at risk. #VaccinesWork

Our community-based pneumococcal carriage study coincided with an early outbreak of a novel respiratory virus🙄 With inperson visits not ideal, we asked participants to self-collect saliva at home & leave outside for contactless pick-up🚗 We hoped pneumo would survive. It does!👇

Latest paper looking at pneumococcal stability in Saliva! Turns out it is pretty stable making Saliva a cheap and accessible sample type for pneumococcal carriage/surveillance studies (particularly in remote regions and LMICs)! @OrchidAlli @awyllie13 pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36409104/
