Alright. It’s been a few hours now and the initial reaction I had has definitely cooled off. Here are my thoughts:
- I need to see 2-3 more moves before making a full opinion. It’s not looking good right now, but I have full trust in Peterson.
- It seems to me that while the team is happy with the amount of wins they had, they might still believe they are 4-5 years away
- LaMelo’s medicals had to have a red flag. He may have missed less than 10 games this year, but can you gamble that will happen next year?
- A significant amount of pressure now lies on Brandon Miller to develop as a creator/finisher.
- Naz Reid.
- Reid profiles out more as a four right now than a five. Could we see a Miles Bridges deal within the coming weeks?
- Do they believe Coby White is the starting point guard? Or could we see them go after Ja Morant?

Hornets must have thought VERY lowly of LaMelo's ability to be the building block of the franchise. Either leadership-wise, the medicals, or both. Feels like an insider trading deal, shipping him out the moment he had regained value. One unprotected + Naz feels real light though.

@ArtTakesNote That 40mil trade exception let's them do a lot more. Sign Fred VanFleet and Luke Kennard or Anfernee Simons and Kelly Oubre Jr. or just Zach LaVine lol. Could also re-sign Sexton. Take on bad contracts like Fox.
This shouldn't be judged until October.

Just from a pure value perspective this is terrible for Charlotte.
That 2029 pick swap is only swappable if Minnesota’s pick is 1-5 because the 6-30 portion of the pick goes to Utah already.
The 2030 pick swap is the least favorable of MIN/SAS as well.

If Jeff Peterson is still serious about pushing in all of chips in for a star, it has to be Jaylen brown. He’s only star that seems to make sense for our roster.
Fit next to kon and miller would be a little janky, but his defense and rim pressure would fix most of our issues.

Just a hunch: Jaylen Brown might end up a Hornet. Due to the LaMelo trade, they created a $40M trade exception (the largest in history) and got Naz Reid in return. Jaylen Brown’s contract fits that perfectly.

Hornets could trade Miles, Grant, Kalk, Tre and 1FRPs for Jaylen Brown and would still have the $40Ms trade exception. So they have a chance to really make this roster something.
Not to mention they still have $8M Trade Exception from Collin Sexton and $7M TE from Tyus Jones.
I am not happy about the trade but we move...got to find ways to get better.
