People are arguing against a position that no one is actually making.
No one is saying a woman of Ghanaian heritage born in England is ethnically English.
The argument is this: you can be civically English without being ethnically English.
Take @estherckrakue and me.
We both have Ghanaian surnames and neither of us are white. She is fully ethnically Ghanaian. I am half ethnically Ghanaian and half ethnically English.
So I am ethnically and civically English. She is not ethnically English, but she is still civically English.
That is the entire point people keep dodging.
We both live here. We have both integrated. That makes us both English in a civic sense.
The real disagreement is this:
Some people want “English” to be ethnic only, and push everyone else into “British”.
But the public does not think that way.
Polling shows most people are comfortable calling black and brown Brits English in a civic sense.
So what is this really about?

There is a glaring double standard in how some people treat Muslims and Jews in this country.
I’m Anglican, and public displays of religiosity aren’t especially my thing. But I do believe in the British tradition of religious freedom, and that principle only means anything if it’s applied consistently. If we accept Jewish community services such as Hatzola and Shomrim, we should be equally comfortable accepting Eid prayers in Trafalgar Square.
What’s intolerable is the rank hypocrisy. The same people who applaud Jewish-run community services as admirable civic contribution are often the first to sneer at Muslims for comparable expressions of faith, suddenly recasting them as cultural overreach or “parallel societies.” It’s not principle, it’s prejudice dressed up as concern.

It's interesting that Muslims in the UK are often told we "don't integrate", however many don't know that Jewish communities have their own ambulance and police services. I can imagine the uproar if Muslims had such services. I've no problem with it, only the double standard.

Instead, he tried to shift the discussion – asking whether criticism of a mass iftar event in Trafalgar Square is “causing problems” for the Jewish community. This isn’t balance or insight; its poor journalism that misses the point and dilutes the seriousness of antisemitism. Well handled by @DovForman for staying on point.

I'm pretty sure that 43% of pupils do not in fact need additional support but that we have instead, as in other areas, expanded & lowered the criteria for eligibility so it seems as though 43% of kids need this. You could easily create a scenario in which 70% do too.

It is a national memorial to our independence and our salvation. Last night was not like a televised football match or a St Patrick’s Day celebration. It was an act of domination and therefore division. It shouldn’t happen again.

For so long, violence by women has been seen as a joke.
Something to roll your eyes, laugh, and smile at; the butt of a thousand SitComs gags, the target of endless excuses, and outrageous rebukes of ‘its not that bad’, ‘she didn’t mean to’, ‘he deserved it’, etc.
So many people think, a man who is being abused by his female partner has to simply endure it, to hide and run away.
Some think a man who does so is weak.
Others believe a man's physical strength makes him impervious to such acts of violence by a woman, and we needn’t spare a moments thought.
Well, it was only a few weeks ago, when I was contacted by the wife of a man who was formerly in the SAS, who in a previous relationship was driven to a suicide attempt due to abuse against him.
This is a man trained to kill, and endure, by the most elite special forces on the planet, being driven to a suicide attempt by a woman half his size.
Clearly our notion of violent, abusive women is not quite right.
So do popular depictions of female violence against men have to change?
And how can we ever expect male victims of abuse to seek help, when all they see is this sicking parade of jokes, skits and minimisation, with them as the protagonist?

@GorgieTalk It has been the most baffling thing. We have went the whole season playing centre halves and midfielders at right back, despite signing two. No amount of tactical nuances hides the fact that this has been a huge recruitment failing that is starting to cost us.

Whilst the right back issue remains a hot topic what causes great concern is the lack of transparency around the former Valernga captain.
In originally as the solution to our right back issue, initial setback with a thigh injury the latterly a hamstring injury is there more to the Borchgrevink absence than meet the eye?
Countless photos and videos reflect Borch in training which begs the question of why do we never see him in any matchday squad and why does he sit behind a CB (Steinwender) and a CM (McEntee) in the pecking order of a problem position.
Hopefully @HeartsStandard_ or @edinburghsport will address the mystery around this one.
